You are right, Knight, that God crucified His Son; in fact the Bible says the plan was laid before the foundation of the world.
You can get a symbolic peek of this plan in the creation narrative.
God spoke or created animals from dust, but for Adam to get his bride, he was placed in a deep sleep. Then God opened a wound in His side and part of man became Adam's bride.
Likewise, God became part of us--a descendant of Adam--when He took on humanity. Then Calvary--Jesus was "crushed for our iniquities" and from that wound in Jesus' side, He gained the right to receive His church, which is His bride.
Isaiah 53 should be read completely through. It talks of how Jesus must become an offering. If there was any other solution to the sin problem, such as an angel dying as our substitute, fine, but because Adam, our ruler transgressed, then a higher ruler had to take his place.
You see, the Bible calls Jesus the "last Adam", and our creator forsook His heavenly throne and will eventually rule this puny earthly throne.

good question. Although I am not a philosopher... my response is: God had to come up with the plan to blot out the sin of the world b/c He was tired of judging the people. This is when He decided to send a son 1/2 born man and 1/2 God. I know this sounds crazy but.. listen. He then sent Jesus to be born of a woman so He can also know how it is to be tempted and fight with the same issues that mankind did. Yes He could've just let things be but then how would we get to salvation and forgiveness of sins? I really think that you should read the scripture so you can get a better understandin of the heart of God etc. Sorry, i could go deeper but it's tooo much info.

The idea of Justice demands a punishment of some sort for a crime committed. In the case of sin, the natural punishment/consequence is eternal death for the sinner, since they are choosing their own evil ways over God's ways.
The only way that Justice can be appeased is with blood, either the sinner's, or a substitute's. Animal sacrifice was instituted as a substitute for the life of the sinner, and for obvious reasons: if all sinners were killed for their sins, then nobody would be left alive on earth in about 6 months!
God wanted to make a chance to offer redemption to the entire human race, so He revealed Himself to the Jews, and set up the entire Jewish faith, including their temple worship and sacrificial rituals. The daily, earthly sacrifices of animals wasn't enough to atone for the sins of humanity. God knew this, and prepared the way for the Perfect Sacrifice: a sinless, perfect human.
By becoming a willing, perfect sacrifice, Jesus appeased the rules of Justice, and opened a way up for God to extend Mercy to Humanity.
At this point, God has taken all the necessary action. He did all this to get our attention. On our own, we would not know Him, or seek Him out.

Because, by a really amazing coincidence, Jehovah thinks exactly like some anal-retentiveHebrew religious nut from the Bronze Age who is obsessive-compulsive and has to make things extremely legalistic.
I never understood the whole legalistic explanation of the crucifixion and I've been Catholic, Lutheran, and Southern Baptist in my past.
It's bad enough to say that "2 +2 = 5", but saying "2 + 2 = arthritic snickerdoodles" is completely absurd, no matter how many theologians labor to try and come up with a rational-sounding explanation.

God created man perfect. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, sin entered into the world followed by pain, suffering, old age, and death. Sin paid a high price...Adam's perfect life, worse he became a slave of sin.
How would this be undone? How would we be remove from this slavement?
In equation, what could buy back the perfect life that Adam lost? That would also be a perfect human life...since all human came after Adam sinned, we are all born into sin and no human is perfect.
So God provided a ransom to save us from sin. Ransom, just like when someone you love is kidnapped, you pay the amount the kidnappers asked for.
Jesus, existing as a spirit in heaven, willingly became human (Philippians 2:5-9) and gave his life for us to pay the ransom that sin wants. Perfect life=Perfect life. JEsus bought us and freed us from sin's slavery.
Behind this, Satan as we know, is also involved, when Satan told Eve that they will not die and they will know evil and good, he was implying that God is hiding something good from them. Satan was questioning God's sovereignty, his right to rule over man, that he himself is a better ruler than God.
True, God could have destroyed Satan, Adam and Eve and start anew but many angels were watching at that time. If God killed them, the issue will have not been answered. So God gave Satan a chance to show how he will rule over man.If youll remember, Satan was offering/tempting Jesus the kingdom of the world if JEsus would make an act of worship to him....this means that Satan owns the rulership of the world...
So, Jesus has to die, to buy us from sin...and show the loyal angels (humans as well) how it is when God is not the ruler.

Great question, thanks for wanting to know-
God is a Holy God, and He cannot allow us to be in His presence because of it. Sin cannot be in the presence of God. The Bible says that there is no forgiveness without the shedding of blood. If God just brought us into paradise anyway, He really would not be God- because that would "excuse" our sin. God is not excusing our sin because then He would not be a just God. Even though God loves us, He is still just- and there must be payment for sin. The only payment that would pay for the sin that all of us commit is the death of His perfect Son. In the OT- Israelites had to continuously sacrifice lambs, etc to atone for their sin. However this was not permanent. So Jesus who is the perfect lamb of God, became our scapegoat- and came to earth to live the life we should have lived, to die the death that we should have died so that we can live eternally. Jesus rose from the dead and has victory over death. God chose Jesus to die, because He chose us to live with Him. However those who do not choose Jesus as their payment of sin will be condemned because God is Holy and Just- if you accept His forgiveness, His way, you will see His grace and mercy.- which is something we do not deserve.

God chose His Son to be crucified for four simple reasons:
1 A blood sacrifice was required for the remission of sins. (Genesis 3:12)
2 Jesus was the only one qualified to be a pure enough sacrifice. (Leviticus 1:3)
3 God knew that He could raise Jesus up again. (John 10:18)
4 God loves us enough to have gone through pain for our sakes. (John 15:13)

You guys alway argue from one characteristic of God. You choose to argue from the all-powerful point of view. Since God has more than one characteristic, they affect each other. God is also light, love, power, wisdom, and just. What happens to the justice of God, if he just swipes the slate clean as you propose. If someone did horrible crimes against your loved ones even you would be calling for some type of justice.

God is a God of justice as well as a God of love. He hates sin.
A person who is charged with a crime is there because of doing something wrong, and justice is sought. There has to be justice. Wrong doing has to be punished.
That is how much you are loved by God, that He was willing to send His Son Jesus, to die in your place.
God Bless you my friend.
