Or is it teachings and study

Surely you have to prove it. I am Church Of England and it's registered at the church i was christened at.

We had an incident this week where my son kicked a football, he mis judged it, it went into the brook, he retrieved it, apologised, got punched in the face by a women, i said to the police i want to press charges she said it was a racist attack because she is muslim, she never was.....i know of the family, my son is distraught as this was nothing to do with racism, and the police say if she says she is then we believe her......

Good job the police don't adopt this attitude for murder and robberies

Can you assume a religion when it suits???

I am very upset and so is my son, he is 15.

I think you can choose any religion you wish but it may have nothing to do with "faith" or the faith of that particular religion. Perhaps the woman is pissed at Christianity right now and claimed Islam because she wished to make trouble for local Christians?

Personally, I believe "choosing" a religion is a long drawn-out process of learning, becoming open-minded, and allowing yourself to grow emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, regardless of what path you end up taking.

Now, am I understanding you correctly, that the woman claimed your son made a racist attack against her and the police are believing her? A racist attack... with a football... in a brook? And he's 15?

I don't know what laws are like there (I assume you're in England if you're Church of England) but in America, no one has to prove what religion they are, all they have to do is say "Christian" and that covers several hundreds of denominations, Muslim, Moslem, Jewish, etc., and that's pretty much the way it is. I know many "Christians" who change denominations like they change their socks, but that doesn't make them any less "Christian" in the eyes of the "church." It can get very confusing, to say in the least.

I would advise speaking with an attorney concerning the events with your son and this woman. Sound like she's out to cause trouble and if she were a Muslim woman, she would not raise a hand to a male (at least that's my understanding, I'll have to ask some of my Muslim friends next time I see them, I'm curious now).

Good luck and peace to you,

Beki

Hi untanuta,

First of all let me say i'm really sorry to hear about what happened to your son. I can't believe that an adult has the audacity to punch a 15 year old kid.

There really are no rules when it comes to when a person decides to follow a certain religious belief because it's a personal decision. In this case however, it really doesn't matter what religion she is... your religion does not give you a right to violate other people. Punching a kid in the face without a just cause is wrong... period!

If she wants to play the race, religion card, her argument is null. The question is did she, or did she not hit your son? If she did that should be the topic of discussion not racism.

Many people actually do assume a religion when it suits (remember your question is can you- and apparently people do). It's not right... but it does happen.

I will pray for you and your son, and hope that the situation comes to a healthy resolution.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

That is horrible that a grown woman did that your son.

As for the Muslim part. We are supposed to convert in the mosque in front of others Muslims although not all do.
In Islam, you are capable of waking up and becoming a Muslim. All you have to do is say some words and you are a Muslim.

Don't worry about the police. Innocent until proven guilty.
I recommend that you go ahead and press charges.
Anybody with brains can see that was not racist.
Even if she is a Muslim and perceived the incident as racist that doesn't give her the right to hit your son's face.
Your son didn't even "SEE" who throw that ball.

I wish you the best of luck.
Use that mother's instinct and give justice for your son!

Your 15 year old "football playing" son allowed a woman to punch him in the face for accidentally kicking his football into the brook?

When I was playing football at 15, if a woman tried to punch me in the face, frankly she'd have been tackled, and had her face buried in the dirt.

Perhaps your son should doing ballet instead? Tell the lad to go kick the football in the brook again, and this time be a MAN when the woman comes at him. He's a minor, so he won't get in trouble, and he'll learn a good lesson about standing up for himself.

Problem solved.

(So, he was skateboarding and kicked SOMEONE ELSE'S football into a brook. How exactly did he "misjudge" touching someone else's property, and then kick it into a brook? How old was this woman who punched him? Was it her ball, or her son's?

If you ask me, there's more to this story than what we're reading folks. Why not tell everyone exactly what happened, as opposed to just what makes your story sound worthy of sympathy. Judge Judy!!!!!!!!!!!)

Although it may seem impossible, from a legal standpoint, yes, you are free as the freedom of religion, especially here in America, entails. Still, this doesn't mean that you should accept the claim that you and your son have been living in a manner which is in opposition to Muslims, and you can surely argue that you would never have taught your son to hate or throw balls at Muslims, whether or not she was, and that one's religion is not your focus of evaluation.

As far as assuming a religion yes you can claim to be Christan one day Muslim the next and next week be Jewish or atheist. That is a personal decision. As far as your heart being in it i cant see someone jumping from one religion to the next without having doubts. She had no right to hit your child and she should go to jail for assault or child abuse which ever is greater.
Make sure your son knows he didn't do anything wrong and that there is people in the world that just ant to start trouble. He just happened to stumble across one.

Let me think................Nope! Never was I able to judge every kick or hit of the ball when I was 15. I wish I had been that good!

Sounds to me like she is a stupid cow that was looking for a reason to be hateful. My gentler side tells me that maybe she is paranoid and uncomfortable living there.

In any case, not to sound mean, but maybe your son should punch her in the face next time.

Hope your son will still enjoy playing!

Stop being a wimp and forget the police, Go hit this woman in her face, no one should be able to hurt your son without facing the consequences of their actions

Tell that woman to go and get a life! Kids play football, period.

I would like to wake up one morning and be a Hari Krishna type, but only because I like "my sweet lord" by George Harrison.
