Actually, "wunderschön" is closer to "beautiful". Just "schön" isn't strong enough.

To the person below me: "wunderschön" is a completely normal German word - you hear it used all the time. It does mean "wonder beautiful" literally, but just because something sounds stupid when translated literally to English doesn't mean it can't be normal in another language.

"Völlig schön", on the other hand, sounds completely wrong in German. No one would say that. If you want to say "completely beautiful", you might say "total schön", but "wunderschön" is still more idiomatic.

It's definitely schön. (If pronounced properly, it rhymes with the first five letters in the word "journey") Possible uses include:

1) Du bist schön - You are beautiful
2) Es war eine wünderschöne Erfahrung - It was an amazing experience

Just be really careful not to mix it up schon, which means "already" e.g. ich habe das schon gemacht - I've already done it

The word for beautiful in German is schon, only the "o" should have an umlaut (the little dots above vowels).

Schön pronounced as shoon...the umlaut o is pronounced oe which becomes a long pronunciation.

Wunderschön could mean wonderful...

Ich sage "schoen"! Mann (one) sagt (says) "schoen"! "Wunderschoen" would translate as: "wonder beautiful."

If you want to say etwas (something)
stronger, say, "voellig schoen" = completely beautiful!

To the person above me: Es tut mir leid! Vielleicht Sie sind richtig (oder "rechte haben")! I failed to check out your suggestion thoroughly in my German-English Dictionary, and answered too quickly! My German is somewhat "rusty"!

DANKESCHOEN!
