My Beagle, Belle, is 2 and this is her 1st litter. She has 3 pups.

What can I do to stop my Belle's hurting?

Please don't be mean, my dog is in pain.

Should I start feeding the week old puppies? If so, what?

Is there an oitment that will ease the pain in her teats.

I can't really afford the weekend cost of the Vet! I'm trying to get through the weekend!

Again, please stop being mean when a dog is in pain!

I checked and the teats are not swollen, red or sore. Belle let me touch them all I wanted to. So I really don't feel it's mastitis.

At this point, sometimes she will have no problem nursing the pups. Other times she will sit and stare at them while growling as they nurse.

People are not trying to be mean - it sounds like your dog has mastitis (infection and swelling of the mammary glands). They're trying to make you understand the potential seriousness of this.

One might suggest it's you who are being mean, by letting her suffer the weekend because you don't want to pay the extra cost. Listen: the SOONER you catch problems, the CHEAPER they are! If it is the beginnings of mastitis and you leave it too long, the extra weekend cost is going to be as nothing compared with the cost of treatment.

You can't really put anything on the teats, because the puppies will ingest it when they suckle. You can feed the puppies using a dog milk replacement formula if Belle is hurting too much to feed them.

Please pay that extra weekend cost - I think you may end up regretting delaying it. Do you see what I'm saying - it might be the beginnings of mastitis, in which case prompt care will prevent it becoming a fully blown infection, which is expensive

Poor Beagle Belle, I have to say that it is not that much fun nursing humans, and Belle knows they are competing for the best TEAT in town, and she also knows they will soon have TEETH. She is scared, and scared of the future. Praise her each time she nurses. Then call the Vet even over the week-end, they should give some advice over the phone.

I'd have her checked to see if theres an infection. Nursing can hurt. Examine her nipples to see if there is a sore on any of them. If there is try to keep the puppies off that nipple so the sore can heal. While looking for sores, check to see if any are swollen (more than the others), red, warm-hot, and see if it's painful to the touch. If so, she definately should see a vet.

Yikes! Time to scoop up domestic dogs and mom and take all of them to the vet! She's going against her intuition for a reason. it might desire to be some thing like a uterine an infection . . . do exactly no longer understand until she's examined via the vet. you may relatively get mom's milk from a puppy save like puppy clever that has exact training, yet you may relatively discover out why she would be in a position to no longer nurse earlier the domestic dogs start up dropping weight. it might desire to be too late via then.

Massage the teats with vaseline....just plain old vaseline nothing special added.....also check the teats for lumps. I urge you to get her to the vet as soon as possible if this persists. Some of the younger vets, especially in larger cities, make house calls. Look in the yellow pages.

My dog has had five litters of puppies and this has never happened. What I suggest, is before u thin the pups r going 2 nurse, massage her teats. I no it sounds gross, but thats all Ive got.

You can always find breeders online and email them for help. You should most likely spend time with her when the pups are being nursed since your dog is still young. As you spend time with Belle, her mind should start to be taken off the pain and should be more into spending time with you, that way, she'll feel better and you two will have a stronger, healthier relationship.

You can call your vet and ask them they don't usually charge for a phone call even on the weekend. If you can't wait a minute longer try and find a vet that is open on Saturdays or a vet school a student there would love to help you if they can.

OK look just call your vet. Advise over the phone cost nothing. He can tell you how to help your dog better than any of us here.
I dont know why she is in pain. Neither do you, so just pick up the phone and call your vet.

You could see a vet if this doesn't fix it: Check the puppies nails and see if the mother has scratches on her belly. Get someone who knows how to barely clip off the tips of the puppies' toenails and that may give her the relief she is looking for.
