Try Lunesta or Ambien CR. If you don't want to go that route, then try Melatonin, which is a natural sleep aid. It doesn't work as fast or dramatically as the drugs, but is a good alternative with no side effects. Some swear by a warm bath and a glass of milk and light snack before bedtime.

To answer your other question, lack of sleep can certainly have a negative effect on your ability to communicate or concentrate. If your insomnia is habitual, I would certainly check with your doctor. Good luck and happy ZZ's.

I dont take anything, but my parents just drink horlicks before they go to bed, that usually helps them nod off. My mum drinks herbal tea too, usually Echinacea, Cammomile and Valerian are good. If you're looking for something a little stronger try Nytol tablets, I've heard they're real good! But if you are suffering from insomnia then go to your GP and he might give you stronger tablets or antibiotics.

As to the fuzzy-brain, lack of ability to communicate: Yes that is one of the effects of sleep deprivation.
When I want to get to sleep quickly, I fantasize about doing something I would really like to do, like having billions of $$ to give to worthy causes. Corny, huh? Find your ZZZ key and use it.
