LOL
God Gave man laws to govern Him self
He also set up towns in the OT for the criminal to run to, but if the criminal came out of that town, then guess what?...he was fair game to a "Stoning"
We where all a "Clump of Cells" and are living.
I can turn a blind eye to someone who has been raped, incest, or in danger of dying.
But let me tell you that Statistically, the numbers do not add up for these, and in fact that majority of the abortions are done as a form of Birth Control.(like we don't have enough birth control out there already)
As far as the Death Penalty goes:...Name me one thing that a fetus "Clump of Cells" has done to die?...just one
The fetus "Clump of Cells" has never hurt anyone, killed anyone, stole anything....etc.

Abortion was not a word back when it was written so you are absolutely correct to say that 'thou shalt not committ abortion' is not in the bible. There are many verses that talk about how children are to be treated and please don't try to feed my that GARBAGE about how that unborn fetus is NOT a child....I've seen the ultrasounds and there is no denying that that is a CHILD!!!! And, the Bible, in true translation actually says that thou shalt not commit MURDER and the definition of murder according to World Book is 'the unlawful killing of one human being by another with malice forethought" and the Bible also says an eye for an eye (death penalty) So you see there is a case for being anti-abortion while still supporting the death penalty WITHOUT being a hypocrite =)

Okay, here's the deal:
As far as I know, women have never in history given birth to a monkey, a mule, a butterfly or a pine tree. So that means you have a 100% guarentee that a fetus will be a human being.
Second point: a sperm is a living thing. It has a life cycle all it's own and a life span, plus it reproduces. That makes it a life form.
Third point: an egg is alive the moment it leaves the ovaries. It has a life span of about 5 days, then it dies.
So here's your challenge:
Prove that the egg is dead at any point in development, or prove that the egg is not a human being at any point, and I'll let you off the hook.
Otherwise, when you kill a fetus, you're killing a living human being. And we commonly call that murder. (If it wasn't alive, we could just yank it out like a piece of gauze and lay it on the counter. The fact that we have to stop breathing, cut anything, stop the heart, or any other medical procedure means that we're taking steps to end a life.)

Turns out Wikipedia has an entry related to your question. To sum it up, the (Christian) Bible wasn't written in English, but mostly survived a series of translations from the original writings. Human language being what it is, mistranslations can occasionally occur, and the apparent contradiction you point out seems to be a case of it. Kinda makes you wonder what other oft-quoted scriptures may not mean what they seem... :-) The Christian -- yet inexplicably bloodthirsty -- advocates of industries of violence (war, capital crimes, torture, etc*) try to point out that since "murder" is the "best" translation, a "good Christian" should also support various legalized forms of killing. But nothing is so simple. Euthanasia, for instance, isn't really addressed in the Bible (it's closest relative being assisted killings for the sake of "honour" or other dubious reasons). So, it doesn't make sense to base a society's laws on a religious document that may or may not have arbitrary rules. This is why separation of church and state is a necessary (even if messy) requirement for any stable government. Conflicts arise often in the USA because the line between church and state is rather blurry in some locales. And then inquisitive people like you notice anomalies, and visit Y!A to find out more. :-) * Not that there aren't countless, "good-hearted" soldiers and so on, mind you. (For further details about the translation, check the 'source' link).

I wouldn't say I'm an astounding hypocrite because I am anti- abortion and have some support for the death penalty. The baby you kill during abortion did not do anything wrong. The murderer receiving the death penalty killed someone! He/ she definatly did something wrong. If you believe it is wrong to go out and kill an innocent person on the street but practice abortion, you are the hypocrite.

Until you can convince me that performing an abortion is NOT ending the life of a living person, I'll stick with "thou shalt not kill"
Why do you feel it necessary to throw in your comment regarding the death penalty? The two arguments do not relate unless you believe in the sanctity of all life. Would not the person who was pro-abortion, but anti death penalty ALSO be a hypocrite?

Seems to be a Bible 'version' difference in the text quoted here. The King James Version Exodus 20:13 reads "Thou shalt not kill" Doesn't say "murder"

As you said, it does not say thou shalt not committ abortion, but says Thou shalt not kill, and personally, I believe that killing is abortion, because I believe the moment of conception is when life takes place, because the genes are right there and are combined. That to me is the beginning of life. I hope this helps, and I am sorry if anyone is offended.

Your right but an abortion is killing life/a baby. Now as for the death penalty the commandment says thou shall not kill. For me for the death penalty it depends on everything, whether he/she likes cereal, whether willing to change etc. But the death penalty would help create some openings in the prisons. There are ups and downs to everything. The death penalty I am in the middle but the abortion I'm totally against. To me it's the same as murdering your child!!! Once the sperm hits the egg it's life your killing.

Abortion is not an issue in the Holy Scriptures or Christian bible. Abortion was practiced in other surrounding cultures, but abortion was not discussed at all.
The notion of when life began is phrase in terms of blood, not of conception.
When the bible is silent on an issue, it is a man's issue. For example, the teachings of the Rabbi's do not condone abortion but feels the woman has suffered enough.

The Bible States 6 Abominations that the Lord hate: " A Proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, (Proverbs 6:17) Obviously, an unborn child is "innocent". Furthermore,
Exodus 21:22 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
Public Domain
22If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
23And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
24Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe
Think about it, if a man striketh a woman and causes her to miscarry why shall that man's life be taken? God hold the life of the unborn in high regard. Abortion is Murder, and all Murders will be Judged
