The key difference is in the target market. Coca-Cola Zero is the newer zero-calorie Cola aimed at the younger men who don't like the diet taste or image, but still want the zero-calorie "benefit." The formulation is based on Coca-Cola Classic.

Diet Coke was originally introduced in 1982 (25 years ago) with a different formulation from the original Coca-Cola Formula and with less carbonation so it goes down easier (in the words of former Coca-Cola Chairman Goizueta, "smoother").

The sweetener for Diet Coke has changed over the years and most recently with Asparame. Diet Coke also has one product sweetened with Splenda.

Coca-Cola Zero uses a blend of acesulfame potassium and Aspartame.

Coca Cola Zero is based on the original Coke formula but uses artificial sweetner.

Diet Coke uses artificial sweetner & a different flavoring recipe.

Diet Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero both use acesulfame potassium and aspartame as sweeteners instead of sugar.

Coca-Cola Zero has more acesulfame potassium and less aspartame than Diet Coca-Cola.

I'm not sure exactly, but I think the ingredient that takes the place of sugar is different.
The flavour certainly is different.
I've been drinking Coke Zero since it came out and I really like it.

except flavor, nothing really. Coke zero in my opinion was made for people who don't like the "diet" label. my brother will drink coke zero but not diet coke. yet they are virtually the same nutrition wise.
