Why is America always supporting Israel and what does that do for Americas reputation?

Pardon my ignorance. I am just starting to research.

The United States supports Israel for a variety of reasons. One main historic reason is that if there were another world war, Israel would be a strategic ally and staging ground for US forces. Another reason is that if Israel were to collapse today, who knows where its nuclear weapons would go? Partly, we also support Israel because we have a lot in common with it -- similar culture, government, etc. Israel is something of an "outpost" for western civilization in the Middle East.

It binds US reputation with Israel's reputation. That wasn't so bad until recently, but as Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories stretches out into decades and decades, there is a growing movement in Europe to liberate those territories. So as Israel's reputation sinks, so does America's.

I hope that's a fair assessment, as I tried not to "pick sides."

In here you'll get a few knowledgeable answers, but your best bet is simply to study politics. Therein you will learn about policies and alliances and the wherefores of it all.

In short, alliances are usually built from "self-interest" of any given country to protect access to resources (like oil in this case), etc. Generally religion doesn't always play a key role in such choices up front. If anything it's usually a backseat issue, contrary to popular belief... you have a lot of Americans who get their ideas of politics, etc. from the soundbites in media sources, which is why I'm directing you to hit the scholarly path and bypass the soundbite opinions.

The Jews will be upheld.
They are alone over there.
There has to be some power on the earth to oppose those who would destroy Israel.
The United States is it.
Now we are even closer to them to help. Iraq.
As the time comes close we will move closer.
We have been appointed to help Israel by God.
Reputation?
Who are they?
We are the power.
The united nations; what a joke.
We stop the money payments and it falls apart like a house of cards in the wind.

maybe because America wants the middle east to be struggling in wars and division....what it does to its reputation is that all Arabs really really hates America (as a government)

Out of personal interest, I would say. It is a problem, we should steer more toward a solution with peace than giving one side military advantage!
