I don't pray for myself. I mainly pray for my husband and his safety, his family to be protected, and my little brother and little sister to covert to Islam. I also pray for my mom to covert to Islam and have enough sense to leave my 2nd stepfather. I do however pray for God to take me, my husband, his family, my little brother and sister to Jinnah when we die.

Praying for yourself isn't a sin. In the bible god says to ask me for things. God sais that he is with you forever, in the light and in the darkness. He will help and support you if you put your trust in him. If you do not ask then you do not recieve. Selfishness is a sin, but not all prayers about yourself are considered selfish. Asking for help or guidance when praying isn't selfish but asking that if you die in the night for all of your toys to break so no one can use them is.

Selfishness is a misunderstanding of the fact that we're all interconnected. One person's happiness and contentment is ultimately yours, so if you do something to the detriment of another person, you ultimately feel the consequences somewhere down the road (cause and effect, karma).
It's also a misunderstanding of the nature of "self". When you really think about it... where is this "self" you think is so important? Is this "self" your arm, or hair? Your organs, cells, mitochondria, atoms? There is no inherently existing self, which points you right back to the whole interconnectedness thing. Take care of others, you take care of yourself.
ALTRUISM... the logical choice. A.K.A Pangelism

It would ddepend on what you pray for yourself and why. It would be selfish to pray soly for a million dollars to fall out of the sky so that you could be rich and live in luxury. It would not be selfish to pray that God would make you humble and meek.

Of course not. Jesus said, "you have not because you ask not". We are to come to God with our needs. Jesus also said, if you who are evil give good things to your own children, why wouldn't God, who is perfect, give even better things to His children? God knows we need certain things, He loves and cares for us. All we need is ask. Doesn't mean we're going to get everything we want. But the bible tells us God desires to give us what we need in accordance with His endless riches.
I don't know any born again Christians who sit around praying and asking for stuff. They are always praying for their neighbors, friends, children, others. If they have sickness, a financial need, if they are emotional distraught, then of course God wants us to ask Him to help us. It's not about getting "things".

when you were a child, did you ever ask your parents for the things that you wanted, or needed?
we thing of God as our Heavenly Father, and it is not vain, or selfishness, to ask daddy for the things that we need, and want, He can always say no.
but He does want us to talk to him, and tell him of our needs and desires.

It depends on what you ask God to do for you. And it isnever a sin to ask God to help others. Your logic is flawed.
