I took in an adult abandoned cat in February, In the past month I notice he has a few bald spots, one spot on his neck has a healing scratch, the other is on his chest just above his left leg that is larger but no apparent injury... Its just bald. What are the symtoms of mange? He seems to be very healthy and happy otherwise.

Maybe, It kind of sounds that way, but if there are no sore it might not be. I found an awesome website that will probably help. It is called www.peteducation.com and I think it will definitely help. If you are still not sure I would go to see a vet.
Hope everything works out.

It's pretty hard to tell what the problem is without seeing the cat, so please take him to the vet.

Mange is fairly rare in cats. It's probably more likely to be flea allergic dermatitis, this is what it sounds like

Whichever it is, the cat needs to go to the vets.
