Then why do we have to follow certian rules? If her were so patient and loving, couldn't he look past our stupid and very HUMAN mistakes? Seriously, if he was so loving and patient, (Which a lot of Christians say he is!), then why are there rules? Why can some people do something? And why do we get punished? Really?

Man made religion, not God. You choose the rules to follow. You can choose to do anything you wish. The bible says that you are to follow the rules of man as if they were from God. Well if you were to be on the safe side and follow all rules on the planet, you would be left with the right to BREATH and thats about it. Do you know how many laws there are in the united states alone?????? My guess would be Hundreds of thousands. I'm sure you are breaking them constantly. Which according to the bible you would be considered a most retched sinner.

In reality there are no rules. Just choices.

What a great question, RA. I think you've hit on an important concept. Either the rules or the love has to be modified in order to make the two compatible. If we modify the rules and keep the love, then God must not have really meant it, and yet he struck down those that disobeyed him. So we are left with rules and perhaps a love for less than the "entire world" of John 3:16, but that's easy enough to fix by looking two verses down to the "condemned already" of verse 18. So perhaps it's not the entire world he loves, but rather the world of his own, sharing a relationship with the ones he has chosen, and showing his wrath against those he has not chosen. This is not due to anything that we have done, but more correctly in spite of what we have done. Which gives us rules that condemn mankind, but undeserved love for some who believe and are forgiven in spite of themselves.

Stupid only goes so far. Many "mistakes" cannot be chalked up to mere stupidity: the foundation of them is hatred and selfishness, not ignorance.

God gave us moral laws because, in our ignorance, we couldn't help but hurt each other. Now, with a defined list (given in love, btw) we have a code to judge our own actions by: This and This are Love, and This and This are not.

How long will you love and be patient with your puppy wetting all over your sofa, before you add a little discipline to his life? Discipline (in this case, housebreaking your dog) is also an expression of love. If then, we can love our dog, and teach him where to go to the bathroom, and how to sit, heel, stay, come, speak, and shake, why can't God do the same for us? Shouldn't we recieve wisdom from God, as an act of love? And shouldn't our improper actions be corrected? And shouldn't our good deeds be rewarded?

Sounds like love to me.

If I have a rule that says don't touch the hot stove. That rule would be there so you would not get hurt. You might gripe and complain about the rule and even say it's not fair. But you just touch the hot stove once and you will fully understand the rule. You will even feel compelled to share this rule with others.
Its just like what God is like. He can tell you until he is blue in the face, but until you use your free will and disobey him you will never know why that rule is in place. I personally got tired of getting burnt. And now take him at his word.

Yes, God is loving and patient, he shows you this every time you wake up to see another day. He does look over our human frailty by giving us more time to live to enable us to correct our mistakes. We have to have an appreciation for God to understand him. We can learn of him in the old and new testament in the bible.

Why are there rules? Why would you give any one rules especially children, for structure, guidance and order, without rules and regulations there would be kayos, confusion, disorder. God doesn't punish us deliverly we punish ourselves by the bad choices we make. If we do good, good will come back to us. Even if we do good at times we will have to suffer some trails that only come to make us stronger in life's challenges. You would have to understand our good God to be able to understand spiritual matters such as this you've asked. To understand God is to be able to understand many things of this life and the other to come . Get into the word of God, learn of Jesus his son our savior and you will be enlighten to the truths that will set you free. God bless you in the reading of his word and may you be blessed with faith.

Lose your toddler, lose your husband, and lose your dad or mum. THEN, you could clarify returned. in case you won't have the ability to tutor to all people God loves you, do no longer. You quit right there. by fact different's have their very very own reports too....you at the instant are not the middle of the universe and don't have the ability to comprehend okay and incorrect, what isn't worth and deserving. The reinforcement of any theory does no longer unavoidably come from God. approximately ninety% scientists are atheists (loss of theory in deities), yet their "emotions are sparked", they "circulate into action" and "study some helpful instructions"....they have spent complete lives to develop a scientific look after illnesses that influence billions of human beings. i do no longer anticipate something approximately you, so do no longer anticipate the morals of alternative human beings.

GOD didn't make any rules. MAN made all the rules and the rules that I speak of are Laws. Laws are meant to keep order in society. It has NOTHING to do with this god you speak of. If society didn't have laws then you would probably be beat and raped and no one would really care. The punishment is not god's will, it is to teach the wrong doer a lesson so that he/she will not do it again.

If someone tells you that you're doing something wrong because they think God doesn't like it, they're an idiot. The only rules you need to follow are laws so that you keep yourself and people around you safe. This God that you ASSUME exists has nothing to do with it.

Jesus was pretty clear on what rules needed to be followed:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Love thy neighbor as you love thyself.

Followed by the Ten Commandments, which includes things like "Thou shalt not kill" and "Thou shalt not bear false witness."

The major result of the Circumcision debate between Paul and Peter in the New Testament, is that Christians need not follow all the purity laws, so all those laws in Leviticus are deemed obsolete, part of the "Old Covenant."

Sounds like a pretty loving and caring God to me.

Oh, wait, you were looking at the more outspoken and hate filled "Christians" and not the actual teachings of Christ. I can understand your question in that context.

If you want some REAL answers on Christianity I would recommend reading "Mere Christianity" by C S Lewis and "The Problem of Pain" by the same author. Both give you a far more complete and level headed answer to your questions than you're going to get from Pat Robertson or Fred Phelps.

He, just like a father, knows what is best for us. He loves us so much that He wants for us to succeed SO much that He set down rules, just as any good parent would do for their children, (don't play with fire, don't pick up that gun at your friends house,...
just because we don't know all the reasons as to "why shouldn't i?" doesn't mean these rules aren't in our best interest. I'm guessing you are not a parent; but when you finally have a precious child of your own & realize that you love them more than you ever thought you could love anyone/anything, then in your selfless love you too will set down rules...some out of selfihness, because we unlike God are not perfect; but most rules are for your childs benefit, & if you truely love them, you will enforce these rules to help your child learn & grow.
besides, most of what we in ignorance call punishment, is really our own doing. it isnt right for us to "play with fire" & if we get burned, to blame our Father saying "He is punishing me." when in reality, we burnt ourselves...because we didn't listen to his loving instruction.
I hope this helped you.

First of all...think of our human family...does a loving parent have no rules? Whenever children make mistakes do we look the other way out of love? No...we have rules because we love them. There are consequences because we love them.

Same thing goes for us. God has been patient, he's done more then that, he sent his son to suffer and die for us. God didn't create hell...we did. So he, out of love, sent Christ to bring us salvation so we wouldn't suffer the consequence we deserve. God doesn't punish us...hell is the natural consequence of sin. God saves us from that.
