Begging for food a behavior you should never support.
It is all right to feed a dog your food as long as you understand and follow two principals regarding dog behavior under these circumstances.
1st people misunderstand what dogs are doing when they beg for food, most people say “aw the dog is hungry lets feed it” so they do. That’s a mistake. Dogs are a pack animal; they are always trying to be the pack leader. If they can’t beat you physically, they try and beat you mentally. So the dog begs for food, and what do you do? You do exactly what he wants you to do…you feed him. He now is the leader because you have done what he wants you to do.
So here is how you remedy this situation, never feed a begging dog. And when you do feed him, put the food in his bowl. dont allow him to eat from the bowl imeadetly, stand over the top of the food bowl (a alpha dog claims a kill by twoering over it letting his other pack mates know he is dominate and owns this food) make him lie down untill he is calm submisive, then invite him to eat. if he pauses and looks up at your eyes, or begines towering over the food dish imeadetly reclaim the food with a sharp scold then stand over the food dish and repeate. don’t feed him by hand. When he begs, scold him. with a bite to the neck (use you thumb middle and index fingers to form a jaw and teeth, as you bite with your hand rotate your thumb into his neck like a canine tooth) Let the dog know that this behavior is unwanted by you.
2nt if you want to feed him your dinner scraps, make him wait until your family has finished eating first, then put the food in his bowl. In a pack of dogs the alpha dog always eats first while the rest of the pack sits and waits tell he has finished. So make your dog wait (preferably a small distance away from the dinner table or another room) until you and your family have finished eating. Once his alpha family is done eating, then he may eat. your dog needs to be lying down waiting in a calm submisive state while you eat. if he moves imeadetly put him back on the ground and do not resume eating till he is calm submisive. contact me if you need more help or have other questions regarding dog psycology and behavior.

Place a bed in a spot away from you (ex. living rm). When you eat put the dog in a down stay on the bed. It may take a few interupted dinners, but whenever the dog comes to the table lead him by the collar back to the bed and say bed. Even if he doesn't come back to the table (ex. gets up and goes to the couch) you still need to put him back in bed since that's where you told him to be. You can reward him by giving him a treat when he stays, but make sure you go to him and he stays down. Don't call him to you to treat. When dinner is over treat him and then release him. Make sure he gets the treat while down and not after you release him as then he may think he's getting the treat for getting out of bed :) Good luck!

The best way to start is to get your dog out of the kitchen (if that is where you are eating). Have him/her sit outside of the room you are eating in and tell him/her to "STAY". Every time to get moves in keep reprimanding the dog to "stay". This will not make him/her stop begging right away, but after awhile, the dog will realize that it can't come in the room that you are eating in. May take days to weeks, but be patient, in the long run, he/she won't come in the room and will wait. I believe that dogs do understand what you say to them, and then maybe reward him/her if he stays put.

GIve your dog a special spot-a blanket, pillow or kennel, and teach him/her to stay there. DOes your dog know how to stay? Eventually say "go to your spot" or what ever, lead the dog there, tell him down, stay, and give a treat. Hopefully your dog will catch on and after a while when you eat your can tell your dog to go to its place and call him out after you are finish-give a treat for a job well done-definately sounds that the dog is food motivated.

Make him lie down in his basket or blanket. Don't EVER feed him at the table or anyplace else but his food dish. It's called training and you must be consistent. He's just a dog..can't figure this stuff out without help.
My parents and sister are terrible. The dog always begs from them. Guess why she doesn't beg from me?
Also, it helps to feed him his own food just as you are sitting down for your meal.

well to ensure my dog doesn't beg I never give her people food, ( Especially from the table while your eating) and if your dog jumps up or starts begging push them away (gently) and say no. If they are really hooked on begging then try putting him/her in the other room while your eating with something like a kong to occupy them. :) Hope i helped
have fun with your doggy!!

Hi Bridta,
It's not as hard as you may think. If you have a crate, crate your dog during meal times or separate him from the family. If this is not possible, Have everyone ignore him completely and not react to any of his behaviors. It worked at my house, the hardest part was to not react.
Best wishes

If you want to teach your dog to lay down while you eat put its leash on and step on it holding the dog close to the floor. He may squirm but he will eventually go to sleep. Repeat this at every meal and eventually he will sleep at your feet while you eat.

professional dog training. she needs to know you are the alpha in the pack. you haven't shown her that. so is you get a bit of help you can teach her who is the leader and she will be submissive to your command.
