Only very insecure gods do that. A true god/goddess states their case and trusts the wise will accept it.

I've never understood the premise behind the 'Turn or Burn' argument. If somebody's a believer, then the argument is meaningless. If somebody's not a believer, then the argument is pointless.

Nobody fears a deity they don't believe in. In fact, smart people would probably steer clear of a deity whose followers have to use all sorts of psychological threats of hellfire to scare people into joining.
