Why do Jehovah’s Witnesses preach from house to house?
Jesus foretold for our day this work: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.” He also instructed his followers: “Go . . . and make disciples of people of all the nations.”—Matthew 24:14; 28:19.
When Jesus sent out his early disciples, he directed them to go to the homes of the people. (Matthew 10:7, 11-13.) The apostle Paul said regarding his ministry: “I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house.”—Acts 20:20, 21; see also Acts 5:42.
The message that the Witnesses proclaim involves the lives of people; they want to be careful to miss no one. (Zephaniah 2:2, 3.) Their calls are motivated by love—first for God, also for their neighbor.
A conference of religious leaders in Spain noted this: “Perhaps the churches are excessively neglectful about that which precisely constitutes the greatest preoccupation of the Witnesses—the home visit, which comes within the apostolic methodology of the primitive church. While the churches, on not a few occasions, limit themselves to constructing their temples, ringing their bells to attract the people and to preaching inside their places of worship, [the Witnesses] follow the apostolic tactic of going from house to house and of taking advantage of every occasion to witness.”—El Catolicismo, Bogotá, Colombia, September 14, 1975, p. 14.
But why do the Witnesses call repeatedly even at homes of people who do not share their faith?
They do not force their message on others. But they know that people move to new residences and that the circumstances of people change. Today a person may be too busy to listen; another time he may gladly take the time. One member of a household may not be interested, but others may be. People themselves change; serious problems in life may stimulate an awareness of spiritual need.—See also Isaiah 6:8, 11, 12.

I'll bet dollars ta donuts dat it has sumpin to do wid da Bible since they believe datz da Word of God an its all dat matters ta dem!
Apparently every true follower of Jesus is supposed to preach the good news of the Kingdom of God and if they dont then they're a fake christian... check it out
Luke 10:1-3
Acts 8:4
Matthew 24:14
Romans 10:15
1 Corinthians 9:16
2 Timothy 4:1-5
Matthew 4:23a
Matthew 9:35a
Luke 4:43
Luke 9:6a
Acts 5:42
Acts 20:20
1 Peter 2:21
Matthew 7:13-23
you see in Matthew 7:13-23 that Jesus says that many are false christians but only few Christians are on the narrow road to life. So many so-called christians just think they need to pay lip service, *saying* they believe in Jesus, calling him "lord lord", yet the Bible is clear that "faith without works is dead" (James 2:26) so if you claim 'you dont need works' then you have dead faith... it does you no good to just *say* you believe... you must follow Jesus' example and preach the good news of Kingdom of God.
agape!

Repeatedly throughout the Bible we read where servants of God were to share His beliefs. Jesus, God's representative and Son, did so and sent his disciples to do so as well.
When we go from door to door we are simply offering to share our beliefs.
I love how Shirley put it.
Golden's answer was odd. I rarely except food from strangers, lest it come from a recognisable chain:D

I am not JW, but I'm sure they are trying to fulfill the Savior's commandment to spread his gospel throughout all the world. Most religions have some type of missionary or outreach effort.

Matthew 24:14 says "good news" will be preached.
They're doing it.
They just want to share some good news about the remedy of a sick and troubled world.
It doesn't hurt to listen.

I don't believe in their message. However, I think it is natural for any person who has a strong faith to want to share it with others. I do know some people actually do more harm in how they go about it.
The best way to share your faith is by your life.
When J.W's come to my house, I smile and tell them pleasantly I have my own faith, thank you, then very gently close the door. I have never had any problems.

The Jehovah's Witnesses take seriously Jesus' command to preach.
"Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit." -- Matthew 28:19
"While I did not hold back from telling YOU any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching YOU publicly and from house to house." -- Acts 20:20
By observing the command to preach, we show to Jehovah that we love him.
"I do nothing of my own initiative; but just as the Father taught me I speak these things." -- John 8:28
We also preach because we want to counteract the lies that Satan is promoting against him.
As Jehovah’s Witnesses, we yearn to share in exposing Satan’s slanders and in sanctifying God’s name before mankind.
"The god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through." -- 2 Corinthians 4:4
"“YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.”
“I myself have told forth and have saved and have caused [it] to be heard, when there was among YOU no strange [god]. So YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I am God." -- Isaiah 43:10-12
The apostole Paul showed how important is to preach the good news.
"If, now, I am declaring the good news, it is no reason for me to boast, for necessity is laid upon me. Really, woe is me if I did not declare the good news!" -- 1 Corinthians 9:16

I think they are trying to spread the "good news" , however if you ask them what the good news is, they have a hard time answering the question. Mostly they try to make you afraid by giving you the "destruction of the world" story which is true but that is not what Jesus asked us to go out and tell. The good news is in John 3:16 "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotton Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life". I also believe that if you are a JW, you have to put time in doing this, it is not an option.

Because they believe in a salvation by works which is not biblical. Their dedication is to be admired, but unfortunately, it is to no avail. They need Jesus to get to heaven. I know a lot of JW's are going to give this answer a thumbs down, but hey, the truth hurts. I know what I'm talking about, because I was raised a JW. But I never had any peace in my heart until I accepted Jesus into my life. He is the truth, He is the life, and He is the Way. (the only way). John 14:6
