I know "you just gotta have faith" but that just doesn't work for me. Neither does some "holy book" that was written by many authors and I am just susposed to believe is the "word of god."

You seem to think a somewhat like me. I try not to put down ANY religion since i can see good in most. I dont like DOGMA found in a lot of them though. I describe my beliefs to this point as such; If you could build a human being out of organs, hair, bones, skin etc. It would just lay there. Until the "breath of life" is entered into the body; to make it alive it would just lay there. To me personally......That breath of life that is in plants, animals, humans, and everything is my "god". It is unexplainable but it is there. Not in a human form to make it more understandable. I have never felt comfortable as a follower and draw my own conclusions from what makes me feel comfortable. I dont force or even talk about my beliefs much but it sure is lonely not being a "follower". I know good and evil exist in everyone. It's up to the individual to balance it. I am still searching ....................So far the most comfortable beliefs i have found are from basically Native American Pre- Christian beliefs. Spirituality is VERY tough because everyone thinks thier religion is "THE only one. Native americans got along fine before christianity was here. They observed, discovered, lived, and died in peace and harmony with Nature. I believe ALL things are connected and need each other to survive. No earth without sky. No oxygen without trees which need earth , sun and rain to live etc........I could go on but i am just me..........no one special but a student of life without Dogma.................I wear a small YIN YANG on my neclace to represent balance in life and also a pentagram which represents the five elements of life. Spirit ALWAYS at the top, air, earth, fire water. So called satanist invert it and put "fire" and "earth"on top. Most people judge without even asking what it means until i explain it. SPIRIT is ALWAYS on top. The circle around the interwoven 5 point star represents the connection of all things to me. I hope no one gets offended here these are just my {personal} conclusions so far. Always learning, listening and making up my OWN mind. I really wish there were more like minds to communicate and learn with somewhere.............Peace............

Cha~ching! What a loaded question! This is great! Solid proof ~ well the Bible is full of stories of solid proof in the OT. The burning bush, the tablets, parting of the Red Sea, etc. This was "solid" proof for those people, but what did they do with the proof they were given? Cling to it, trust it? No. Generally they turned back to the pagan idolatry, and murmured or so the Bible tells us. So ask yourself Sevenending if you were God, would you go on giving proof to each new generation after being turned on again and again?
Your question also presupposed two things one that God exists, and two that people truly think for themselves. This would exclude predestination (which I personally don't buy, but it is one theory). If God does exist what kinds of solid proof has God already exhibited, or is exhibiting that maybe you are just not seeing or noticing? If you have thrown out the Bible as a reference book, then what are you presupposing God on? Once you answer that question then I am sure that you will find all kinds of solid proof. As for faith, well I have faith in gravity. I can't really see it, but I know it exist.
If God is a creator, having created free will, free choice, etc, then wouldn't that be proof enough?

People can believe what they want, and it's fine. I already have the proof that I need.

The fact that I woke up this morning healthy and sane. Lots of folks didn't wake up at all and health didn't have anything to do with it. Earth is turning and I'm not turning it nor will I ever be able to. The universe stays perfectly in it's place and has been like that for a long time. The sun is far away yet it's warm in some places. The power of the small intestines and how a majority of our immune system is there. The whole design of the human body and how it functions.

Although the Bible is Man-written and inspired by God, science is man-written and inspired by man. At least Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. But who can say that science is the truth when it's made up of theories?

Not me! If there were a god and I were him (her?), my favorite passtime would be playing pranks on people. I could just imagine the looks on my little atheists' faces when they appear in Heaven and I get to say, "Gotcha!"

On a related note, I would be extremely annoyed at religious people who make erroneous claims about me or use me as an excuse to hurt each other. I would immediately smite each and every one of them, though I might accidentally convert a few atheist witnesses in the process. Oh well.... Sometimes you have to sacrifice a few laughs to keep your pets from making you look bad.

I would probably be the MOST annoyed by people who screw up my artwork, though. It's hard work putting together complex ecosystems, with everything balanced so perfectly, and then some idiots, claiming I gave them dominion over the beasts, come along and wreck it. Now THAT would earn them an eternity of torture, let me tell you.

You have plenty of proof from all the digs over there. There has been plenty of proof. You need to go to some museums and take a look for yourself. The only thing I can say is if I believe I'm not hurting anyone. But if I don't believe I have serious problems. Why even take the chance. It is all a personal walk what you do with your life. Good Luck. and please go visit some museums and get all you can out of it.

Honestly, If I were God, and I created all man kind, and I could give them an eternal life, I would make them earn it as well...

It would be a lesson. A lesson of respecting those who do for you.

So No, I wouldn't give them solid proof. I would tell them to believe and hope they would do so...

Its just like teaching a child. Its wisdom...

when you raise a child do you tell them not to run in the road and why? Probably you would tell them, but children wouldn't believe their parents, they'd think "I am not gonna get hurt!" Rememeber being a child?

I once knew a woman whose son was a drug user, but she wouldn't admit it. She found some drugs in his dresser and he insisted it wasn't his. Two of his best friends died from overdose, two friends that he'd been with at the time, and she still refused to believe her own son abused drugs.

He was in the hospital twice because his heart couldn't stand the drugs; the doctors showed her the lab results which said he had overdosed on illegal drugs. She proclaimed the tests incorrect, the lab people made a mistake.

She walked in on him once when he was sticking the needle in his arm. He hid it and yelled at her to get out; she was upset because he yelled at her.

My point is that even if God came down and smacked you upside the back of the head, you wouldn't believe. You'd point to Hollywood and say they can do the same thing, you saw it once on TV.

He already has given plenty of proof, and He deomnstrates HIs love for you in this, that Jesus became flesh, lived among us (moved into our neighborhood, as one author puts it), and was executed in order that your sins (and mine, and everyone else's for all time) may be forgiven so we can have a relationship with God.

Yes, the Bible was penned onto vellum by many different hands, but there is a unity to it all which hangs together (that you wouldn't find otherwise if it were simply 60-70 separate documents with no connection to one another).

If you really ARE interested in finding out (and not just posting this on here to annoy people),
I would suggest the following books for your research.

Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis;
The Case for a Creator, Lee Strobel;
The Case for Faith, Lee Strobel;
The Case for Christ, Lee Strobel.

Mr. Strobel is a newspaperman and investigative journalist who began investigating Christianity in order to persuade his wife NOT to become a Christian; in other words, he didn't set out to *prove* Christianity, but to disprove it.

He does give solid proof of His existence.

John 16
The Work of the Holy Spirit
5"Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' 6Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. 7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt[a] in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

Why do you think we are so adamant about God? Because of our faith? Faith is a gift of God as is the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Thats why some poeple say that thet "trust" God. One has to lean wholly on Him and He will bless them, yes, even me.

I wanted to email you to tell you further that the interest that you have and the confusion you feel is from the Holy Spirit. God is seeking you out and calling you to Himself. Listen and trust Him.
