There are some awesome books by Robert Heinlein that talks about long lived people and the lifestyle that comes a long with longevity that I think is very exciting. I mean, imagine being able to study to be a doctor and a lawyer and a scientist all in one lifetime. Really getting to see all there is to see on the planet with the same skin. I think it's a thrilling proposition. As we are now, we have to race to be successful because before we know it we realize we didn't plan properly for retirement.
If you are instead talking about the idea of eternal life in heaven, I think that has been misunderstood and distorted. It seems to me that Heaven can not be a physical place at all - our physical part has died. If there is a heaven it is an altered state of existence that can not be fathomed from this perspective. For reference I think of it as an energy existence - which necessarily would have no touch, taste or smell, but would also be more fluidly connected to others in the same state. I think that is why it sometimes feels lonely to be a human - we are used to a much closer connection in our other state. I think that is why the physical plane exists - so we can taste! sleep! Feel! and learn about relationships without having all the answers already in our own head.
Peace!

It will hard for you to identify with it unless you have a relationship with God. I am not saying anyone can fully understand what eternal life is like. But when you have a relationship with God, He will give you a glimpse or little taste of what it is like. I have had God visit me at night. And those were the most awesome experiences I have ever had in my life. Nothing that I have done in all my years of living have come close to those experiences with God. All I can say is if this is what it is like to be around God all the time, I do not know how I can handle it. It's something you have to experience yourself. Even the apostle Paul was taken out of his body and allowed to go to heaven and saw things he was not permitted to tell when he came back. When you have a experience like that, you feel like nothing in the world can hurt you. And all you think about is going home to live with the Lord. You won't care about your wife, children, husband, friends, dogs, cats, or anything. Just going to be with the Lord.

Eternal life is for the hopeful, people who usually believe in eternal life, assume it will be like their wildest dreams bearing major fruit and lasting forever. or they assume it will consist of eternal servitude to their lord for his gracious gift of such a wonderful life on earth and eternal life, ect. I guess this belief is probably the smallest bit of adventurer left in most people in the world, thinking that one day they will know the universe and have the chance to explore infinity.

Apparently it's not for everyone. I would choose life especially from a perfect creator who knows the desires of my heart. I'm sure an eternity will beat anything you find in this miserable sinful world but many find happiness here I suppose. Those who love the truth do find their happiness in his eternal plan for them.

As a Christian eternal life is wonderful to me because after spending my life here worshipping Jesus by faith, in Heaven I get to finally meet Him face to face. Heaven will be a place of peace and contentment. We will have things to do that challenge us and think of all the people you will meet. Life in this world is not so great with sickness, pain and death. Heaven will be just the opposite to all this bad stuff.

explain what is wonderful about life, and you'll explain what is infinitely wonderful about eternal life.
For instance, let's say you enjoy ice cream. Eternal life would mean being able to enjoy ice cream until the end of time.
If you enjoy just being alive, then eternal life is enjoyable because it is being alive forever.
Catch my drift?

Bettie, it is so wonderful. We are living in harmony, without limitations of time and laws of physics. No pain no suffering, everyone has this perfect understanding of things. God is with us. Heaven is the place we are longing for in our hearts. We are never totally happy in this world because this is not our final home. This life is a gift but the afterlife is even better gift. It gives home here. I do not know how I would be able to comfort dying if I could not tell this person than soon one is going to be in the better place.
But if one does not want to take it, we have a choice. I love to worship my Lord here and after. We are preparing ourselves to heaven. If one does not like to worship God here, we have time to learn. It is truly a pleasure. : )

When Adam sinned, purposely rebelled against God, he died spiritually. Adam (man & woman) were denied the tree of life. They also died within 1000yrs physically. But their soul went somewhere.
A human is first made in the image of God: body, soul & spirit. Jesus said that to see the Kingdom of God we must be born again, born of His Spirit. This is spiritual rebirth. To be whole again, body, soul/spirit. This is eternal life. The spiritual birth. The spiritual birth is the phone line to God the Father. Jesus blood has washed away our sins & God looks at us made in Christ righteousness.
