I used to work at a thrift store for minimum wage. We put in long hours sorting donations in an unheated and unairconditioned back room. I would come home so cold in the winter that I had to spend several hours in bed, trying to warm up. And in summer, I'd be so sick from the heat that I couldn't eat or do anything but rest when I got home.
About the only perk we had was being able to buy items at employee prices. We didn't get things free, nor did we put things aside for other people to buy at our prices. Trust me, we earned everything that we bought for ourselves.
Having said that, I will agree with you that buying bunches of stuff for someone else at employee prices isn't right. The reduced prices are intended to make up for the long and difficult hours that employees spend sorting through stuff, pricing it, putting it out, and then cleaning up after people who have no respect for others.
I'd tell you the horror stories of what we found in some donation bags, but that's another entire post in itself!

Well, if it's true...it's a shame. If it's happening at church thrift stores it's a shame too.
But, it reminds me of something I saw first hand. Years and years ago..when my kids were little, I was a single mom and working 3 jobs to make ends meet. I took a job on the weekends that my kids were with their Dad, taking care of two young retarded men. It was a tough job. But anyway...these men qualified for food from the food bank. Well the therapist in charge (she had several houses) came by after getting boxes and boxes of food from the food bank. She began dividing the food into three piles. One for the two young men, one for her and one for me!! I was shocked...I had no idea what to say. She was my boss and the one in charge. I did take the first round of food...like I said I was dumbfounded and young. I never took any more though. This woman made good money and had a nice home. She'd also bring over her laundry and do it there to save on her electric.
Her attitude was that it was no big deal...the government was paying for it anyway. I think this goes on more then anyone is aware of.

Oh dude, come on - you pulled this yesterday, and I told you then that it's obvious you didn't read the whole thing. Enough, okay? It happens. There's nothing we can do. And don't think it doesn't happen at church thrift stores too. I go to the local Catholic Church's jumble sale every year, and I always overhear the ladies telling people what they put aside for one another.

each type thrift shop has different rules-church based ones try to help all-in most cases workers who just take whatever they want -even at a secular thrift store would be told to stop and if kept up would be fired -
most church run ones are volunteer with no pay. and Jesus pays the best with free salvation John 3 repent and be born again to all that believe-then you help others and are encouraged to also help yourself but that doesnt mean just steal all u can. get into garbage bags.

Yes it is deceptive if the people donating think it is going somewhere else.
May the Lord richly bless you.
