The only way to really flatten the stomach is to diet. You should also exercise, but if you're in relatively good shape the only way to really get a flat stomach is to reduce your caloric intake. Try eating 5 small meals a day. You may want to increase your protein consumption (meats, beans, soy) and decrease carbs. If you're up for it you can try drinking protein shakes as your in between meals. Also, try eating something small an hour before bed, this will insure your body that it still has food during sleep so it will not store any of your calories into fat. Also, drink lots of water, cut out the junk food or any sugar drinks, even juices. They are pure sugar. Increase your level of activity as well...if you're active stay active, or add an extra walk during your day in addition to your workouts. Bottom line is, you have to have a perfect diet to get a perfect stomach. But do it the smart way and you won't feel bad, you might actually feel stronger...see the philosophy behind the Zone diet...essentially the same thing 5 small meals. Good luck.

Obviously diet and exercise are going to be the key, not sure how educated you in this respect- few simple tips - create a calorie defecit, cut out all simple carbs, eat low carb, moderate fat and high to moderate protein. Lift weights and do cardio. Otherwise try fat loss supplements there is a good guide on The Supplement Site to these.. http://www.thesupplementsite.co.uk/Supplement_Guide/fat_loss.htm

Walking in Dr Scholl's exercise sandals, i.e., the original wooden sandal, has a flattening affect on your stomach. When you grip the wooden sandal with your toes, your abdominal muscles also contract. Go ahead and try it curl your toes, while wearing shoes. I forgot all about this phenomenon, until I saw your question. I plan to look for a pair on line, as soon as I finish this message.

It is often not just a matter of burning calories. Muscle tone is exceptionally important. In the military we did a LOT of situps and it is amazing what that will do. Good luck.
