The due date per IRS insructions is April 16 unless you live in the states of Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont or the District of Columbia. Those states have a state holiday (Patriots Day) and get an extension until April 17.

the 17th this year. It's usually the 15th, but is extended because the 15th is a Sunday and the 16th is a holiday in Washington DC

15th is a Sunday, and 16th is a holiday, so you have until the 17th if you owe them money. If they owe you money you have three years to file and collect it.
