I'm sick and tired of receiving calls from people or businesses who don't want to display either their phone numbers or their names, and where I live I don't have the capability of blocking such unwanted calls.

The caller (as the intruder) is the one who bears the responsibility of disclosing who he/she is and who they represent, and to want to hide their identity is to be callous and cowardly, and that most definitely include businesses who should be more than willing to identify themselves if for no other reason, in order to stay in business.

Those who want to block their identity are cowards who do not deserve my time or consideration, and are NOT welcome to call me.

To Mandy: Been there and done that. I'm not willing to pay for my right to know who is intruding me in my own home.

To several of you: The DoNotCall registry only covers numbers in the US. I'm in Canada.

Naturally, you cannot do a reverse lookup without a valid number. So, if you receive a call where the number is not displayed, you are out of luck. Numbers that appear on caller ID as a "Private Number" are unlisted numbers. The caller pays extra to keep their number private.

Luckily, you have caller ID, so you can choose whether or not to answer. What you can also do is add a line to your outgoing voice mail message that states you do not answer calls from Blocked or Private numbers.

Also, add your number (and your cell phone, too) to the National Do Not Call registry. The bothersome calls from businesses should eventually stop.

You can also try www.anywho.com and go to the reverse look up tab. It's not always successful. Go to google and type in the number...it's amazing how many of those callers are on google and the experiences that people have had with these harassing callers.

I would either let it go to voice mail or answer the phone, get their company name and phone number and snail mail address, then tell them to not call you anymore or you will press harassment charges.

Then do a google search on their name/address/number whatever they gave you.
