Yes there are definitely cheaper and more expensive ones. You should be very selective about prices, especially since you don't have insurance. Call the offices and ask for a cash price for whatever services you need. Some dentists will offer a discount for cash customers, so be sure to call around.
If there is a dental school in your area, that would probably be the best bet. Other than cleanings, it's only the students who are about to graduate that do the work and they are usually much much cheaper than a regular dentist. The students are also supervised by instructors, so you don't have to worry that they don't know what they're doing.
Good luck and best wishes!

I usually call around and gather information about prices procedures, hours and days or evening or weekends etc. You will find that most fees charged are pretty much the same. You will also find the office visit, the exam, x-rays etc. can be quoted over the phone prior to making an appointment. Safe to say that can cost about $200.00.
Ask your dentist which dental plan he accepts this can help alleviate having to change dentists just because you purchased insurance he does not accept.
Options that are available for keeping costs down may start with a discount dental plan offering free exams and x-rays, savings of about $200 plus additional savings on treatment etc. of up to 60% off routine and expensive dental treaments.
Also I might remind you that with dental insurance there are minimums and deductibles and etc. A discount dental plan requires no claim forms, or hassles and provides instant savings, activitation and everyone is approved.
Either choice you make I have provided the link below for a list of dental insurance companies providing both types.
I have also included a link for tips on cutting dental costs.
I hope this was helpful? Good Luck!

Prices can vary significantly. If you dont have dental insurance and know that you will for sure have to get some work done buy one of those copay/discount dental insurance. Roughly $150 a year plan will get you discounts on most procedures. Will make up that $ right away with xrays, cleaning, etc... alone.

Dentists charge what the market will bear. You can be sure that dentists in upscale medical buildings will charge more. Find one in a middle to lower middle class area, shop around and don't be afraid to ask what the costs are prior to making an appointment, you may be surprised at the differences.

No, they do not all charge identically for services. However, only a fool would select their dentist based upon their fees. Never...NEVER...pick a cheap dentist or parachute packer.

WHAT DENTISTS CHARGE IS BASED ON USUAL AND CUSTOMARY CHARGES BASED ON WHERE YOU LIVE. SOME PLACES ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHERS.
TALK TO THE DENTAL OFFICE TO ASK WHAT OFFERS THEY HAVE FOR FOLKS W/O INSURANCE.
