SHAMEFUL DAUGHTERS
In fact, the difference between the Biblical and the Quranic attitude towards the female sex starts as soon as a female is born. For example, the Bible states that the period of the mother's ritual impurity is twice as long if a girl is born than if a boy is (Lev. 12:2-5). The Catholic Bible states explicitly that:
"The birth of a daughter is a loss" (Ecclesiasticus 22:3).
In contrast to this shocking statement, boys receive special praise:
"A man who educates his son will be the envy of his enemy." (Ecclesiasticus 30:3)
Jewish Rabbis made it an obligation on Jewish men to produce offspring in order to propagate the race. At the same time, they did not hide their clear preference for male children: "It is well for those whose children are male but ill for those whose are female", "At the birth of a boy, all are joyful...at the birth of a girl all are sorrowful", and "When a boy comes into the world, peace comes into the world...

When a girl comes, nothing comes." 7
A daughter is considered a painful burden, a potential source of shame to her father:
"Your daughter is headstrong? Keep a sharp look-out that she does not make you the laughing stock of your enemies, the talk of the town, the object of common gossip, and put you to public shame" (Ecclesiasticus 42:11).
"Keep a headstrong daughter under firm control, or she will abuse any indulgence she receives. Keep a strict watch on her shameless eye, do not be surprised if she disgraces you" (Ecclesiasticus 26:10-11).
It was this very same idea of treating daughters as sources of shame that led the pagan Arabs, before the advent of Islam, to practice female infanticide.
The Quran severely condemned this heinous practice:
"When news is brought to one of them of the birth of a female child, his face darkens and he is filled with inward grief. With shame does he hide himself from his people because of the bad news he has had..

Shall he retain her on contempt or bury her in the dust? Ah! what an evil they decide on?" (16:59).
It has to be mentioned that this sinister crime would have never stopped in Arabia were it not for the power of the scathing terms the Quran used to condemn this practice (16:59, 43:17, 81:8-9). The Quran, moreover, makes no distinction between boys and girls. In contrast to the Bible, the Quran considers the birth of a female as a gift and a blessing from God, the same as the birth of a male.
The Quran even mentions the gift of the female birth first:
"To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He bestows female children to whomever He wills and bestows male children to whomever He wills" (42:49).
In order to wipe out all the traces of female infanticide in the nascent Muslim society, Prophet Muhammad promised those who were blessed with daughters of a great reward if they would bring them up kindly...

"He who is involved in bringing up daughters, and accords benevolent treatment towards them, they will be protection for him against Hell-Fire" (Bukhari and Muslim).
"Whoever maintains two girls till they attain maturity, he and I will come on the Resurrection Day like this; and he joined his fingers" (Muslim).
Now my question- Which book gives more resepect to women- Holy Quran or Bible

I would just like to point out that ecclesiasticus is an extrabiblical book to most christians. For what ever reason people decided that that book lacked either inspiration by the lord (meaning it was contrary to other scriptures) or they couldn't verify it's authenticity.
Yes the purification in the torah is longer, but it is also plan in scripture that women could be just as wise and spiritual as the men. For example Mariam Moses' sister was a prophetess Debrah was a Judge aka the leader of her people and a wise prophetess of the Lord. Along with many other examples. Women are just "weaker vessels" in christianity and Judaism. As christians we accept the order that Christ set down as far as the woman being under a man in her household. However any gift from God a man can recieve a woman can too. Paul speaks of many woman who were instramental in his ministry along with men. It could be argued that the woman at the well in John 4 was the first evanglist because she being the out cast woman among outcast brought her whole town to the Lord. Also in terms of rabbi's did you know that now ( i don't know how long this has been the tradition) that ones jewish lineage is traced through the mother's side and her mother's and so on. I would have to say... that woman are more highly valued in christianity and judaism than they are in islam. Espeically in terms of the modern. I doubt you will find women being stoned to death for not wearing specific clothing. Read proverbs 31 to see what Solomon thought a Virtuous (aka Godly) woman was. Notice she was a bread winner she was good with finances she was wise and strong.
May God bless you richly

Alas, the shame of not being able to read these Holy books in
their original languages. Since the Catholic church did not write
the Tanakh then their "writings" cancel themselves out. Obviously the lack of hebrew is a problem here. In Vayikra we
get the word "tomai" which has no english equivalent. Suffice it
to say ritually unfit for now. When a Hebrew person touches the
body of a dead animal then that person is "tomai" for one day.
When a Hebrew person touches the dead body of a human then
that person is "tomai" for one week. The reason for the difference is fairly obvious. The human being the higher life
form requires a longer time for ritual recovery than the body
of the animal. Now one thing is commonly known among the
Hebrew or modernly Jewish people. In Judaism a woman is
recognized as the more spiritual and therefore "higher" life
form. This is why there is a shorter period of "tomai" for a
male child and a longer period of "tomai" for the female child.
There is more but this is the question you asked and I have
given you the correct answer.

As the Koran was written with the Bible Old Testament in mind it is not surprising that the Old Testament and Koran mirror each other. Both are based on pre-christian ethics and both are outdated. Of course if the Mullahs carried out the letter of the law then there would be no female children to carry on the Muslim religion, same would happen to the Jews as they still use only the Old Testament

Ecclesiasticus is not included in the Bible. The Catholic Bible may choose to entertain books that were rejected but my Bible does not condemn my existence.
Leviticus contains many rituals that were intended to maintain sanitary conditions. I can see how this would be important for ancient people without running water and hospitals. Maybe one day we will understand why the ritual was longer, but as a woman who has given birth, I wish I had a ritual that would have seperated me from my duties afterward. It would have been a nice little vacation, just me and my newborn.

What bible are you reading. Mine doesn't have more than 12 chapters in Ecclesiastes. Is the Catholic Bible different to the St James?
That is funny - now you say that your source is incorrect. Who knows why Leviticus says that - maybe it is so that mothers can bond longer with their daughter!!!!!
Most religions are down on girls - including the Muslim religion. Or how do you explain female circumcision????

You are quoting from the Catholic Bible, of which most Protestants won't have. But the Bible says in Proverbs
Pr 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD. And a man paid money to a father for a wife. So much value is placed on a woman. Almost one chapter of proverbs is dedicated to a good woman (wife).
So I see that the Bible and God places much emphasis on a woman. After all, Jesus (God) came to this world through a woman.

Actually taking a look a religious views... you are right women are disrespected everywhere... In christianity men are groomed to think they are superior but when you talk Qumran I can't help but think in the middle eastern worlds where women have to hide their faces dress a certain way... The truth is no NOT ONE religion is good for women and for me it's why bother to change any one of them... I believe the injustices with stood the test of time for one reason only that religion does not come from god.... so instead of changing them any of them or comparing which one is better than the other it is a sign to walk away from them all... we can and should live in communities without religious interference.... instead of religion let our homes and home town speak of who we are....

If there is any oppression of Muslim women thats strictly a cultural thing. Islam holds women in high regard, in fact the Prophet (SAW) says that "Paradise is at the feet of the mother." Islam is the only religion that establishes womens rights. The bible doesn't do that. So in actuality women are more oppressed in western society.

What kind of Bible do you use- FALSIMODIUM VERSION or what. First of all, there is no such book in the bible as ECCLESIASTICUS. If you meant ECCLESIASTES, you are forgiven. But then again the book of Ecclsiastes starts from charpter 1 and ends in charpter12. So your info has NO BASIS.

>>"The birth of a daughter is a loss" (Ecclesiasticus 22:3).<<
No, what it says is, "a FOOLISH daughter is born to his loss." (emphasis mine)
>>In contrast to this shocking statement, boys receive special praise<<
No, bad sons are condemned as well -- "An evilnurtured man is the dishonour of his father that begat him" (Ecclesiasticus 22:3).
Is lying and deceit acceptable in Islam?
