Except for maybe 2 or 3 congressmen or senators, non of the Republican leaders who are all for the Iraq war send their kids to Iraq.

I can understand why democrats wont want to, because they oppose the war, but should'nt the Republicans set an example for America by sending their kids to Iraq in large numbers if they really believe in their cause?

When they have a draft every member of the executive branch and the both the House and Senate should get the first batch of numbers before they select anyone else. This will ensure that we never go to WAR unless absolutely no other alternative exists!

A) It's a voluntary Military here in the USA. It is NOT the choice of any parent to "send" their child / young adult to the military

B) I guess I will have to research to find the ACTUAL NUMBER of military-age children of US Congressmen / Senators !! (Oh, and one of the VIP's kids can't serve due to her sexual orientation...)

And of course... MOST of those serving in the military ARE Republicans or right-wing-Democrats !!

Note that the ONLY Congressional Representatives who have pushed for a reinstatement of the draft are DEMOCRATS.

Your cutesie lil rhetorical question / statement is OLD and trite... why don't you do some research and ask something intelligent !!

Joining the Armed Forces is a choice in this country. No one is sending their children to Iraq as far as I know. Some of us are seeing our loved ones go off to war by their own choice.
Anyone who didn't expect to fight for his/her country should not have joined the Armed Forces.

We have a volunteer force. The Republicans can't make their children do anything.

But, you do raise an interesting point. There is a great lack of representation of our social 'elite' in the armed forces. There are some great books that address this subject if you are interested.

One thing I feel would help all concerned. Those who call for war should be the first on the front. It is all too easy to demand that our military put their lives on the line when we have no possibility of being shot and killed in action.

This should apply to every member of congress and presidential administration who makes the call to armed conflict.

Perhaps you forgot that the armed services are all volunteer--that there is no draft? The only people who get "sent" are those who volunteer by joining the military?
