In Spanish Chino is not a derogatory term--in fact, it is often a nickname or term of affection (a little teasing even) for someone Asian or someone with Asian features. I suppose you could take it badly but it is certainly not meant that way.

Guess not since even the former president of Peru, Alberto Fujimori, was called "el Chino" by his people though he is of Japanese-descent.

in spanish i think chino means pants and is used in gang
slang.(he had tan chinos on )

well im from peru and in there we usually call "chino" to someone we are just meeting, kinda like saying "yo mister" to someone native from peru that has some asian features .
