It depends on the person you're referring to. "Prieta" can be someone who is dark haired, tanned. "Licha" is my mother's nickname because her name is "Maria Luisa." I know "Tencha" is short for some other name. "Lola" is short for "Dolores." My aunt "Cuquina" is actually named "Maria del Refugio" but her nickname is Cuquina.

I was always under the impression that a nick-name is a short form for a name. Eg. Robert = Bob, Frederic = Fred, Philip = Phil, Matthew = Mat.
But in Spain they are on bit of a different wavelength:
Enrique = Quique (ok, not bad)
Francisco = Paco (huh?)
Jose = Pepe (??)
Maria Carmen = Mamen
Rosario = Chari (HUH?)
Ignacio = Nacho
Joaquin = Ximo

depends on many things like how do you look like etc, i think you're asking for female ones...
if shes skinny= flaca
why don't you let us know for who you want the nickname? and if you can tell us her name it'll be better :P
Bonita

Well if your name its ashley we can try to translate it as Angélica into spanish
You can be Gela, Angi, Angel, Flaca, Chaparra, Chapis, More, etc.
