Well, there was the time I was making a coconut pound cake for a Christmas party and was talking to somebody as I was mixing the batter. I put it in the oven and baked it for over an hour before I realized there was no flour in the cake.
So instead I took a store-bought cake that I tore into pieces, covered with a Cool Whip and cream cheese mixture and called it trifle :-)

When my kids were very young I was boiling a chicken for another dish. After putting the chicken on I went outside to watch the boys and forgot to turn the fire to low and cover. When I came in the house the smoke detector was going off and the chicken was melted to the bottom of the pot. Needless to say I tossed the whole thing pot and all and we went out for dinner. It took days to get the smell out of the house.

I was cooking Christmas dinner for my parents about 5 years ago, but on Christmas eve the fridge broke down, so in a panic my husband borrowed a fridge from a friend.
We put everything in it overnight but didn't realise it was set at the highest setting so overnight everything froze.
Christmas morning came and I had a fridge full of frozen meat and vegetables - I defrosted the meat in warm water!
The veg was horrible after I cooked it.
Surprisingly no one was ill.
I got everyone tipsy first so on one noticed.

I put a frozen pizza in the oven late at night and went to sleep on the couch and woke up about 2 hours later smelling smoke. It was a little bit black on the bottom and crispy, but I didn't want to waste it and they say charcoal is good for the digestion...

I have a bunch, but one that I served? That would have to be my balsamic dressing. I was in a hurry and forgot to put in the garlic, lemon juice, zest, honey, and pepper. It was just balsamic and olive oil. People did make a couple comments on how acidic it was, but I just said that that's what it's supposed to be like. I didn't realize it until the guests left the party and my husband told me the same thing. Ooopsie!

I use olive oil to cook with. Once, a recipe specifically called for sauteeing the vegetables in vegetable oil.
I washed the pot, put it on the fire to dry it (as I do when I cook with olive oil), chopped the vegetables, then put the oil in the pot.
I watched with my mouth open as the oil swirled, burned and caught fire.
Luckily, it burned itself out, because I couldn't move.
I don't use vegetable oil anymore. I don't even keep it in the house.

When i was first married some of my husbands friends came to stay. they're both vegetarians and so i looked up a reciepe to try to impress them i found a vegetarian pizza which was also suitable for vegans. It was vile basically it was coleslaw minus mayo on a home made pizza base. but every one said it was lovely, until they admitted several years later( when they knew me better) how horrible it was

i've experienced a few in the past. one was with an omelet...it stuck to the pan really bad and it just was aweful.
then i was a kid and tried to make a pound cake for my mom, unfortunately i used the flour she used for shaking up the chicken pieces in. GROSS! because she had just used it in a freezer bag. it had balls of chicken batter in the cake. we had to throw it out.
lastly, i burned the hell out of my last 2 pieces of garlic bread, so i put them on the backporch, unfortunately, it snowed very heavy and the garlic bread melted through the snow because it was still hot. so it was really soggy when i threw it out again.

i once started a fire making pancakes in a wok. i thought it was a big pan, i had no clue... i'm still not sure why i even own a wok. my friend came into my apartment, noticed the black smoke, shook her head in disbelief and took my cat with her. she said to come get him at her apartment when the air had thinned out. the whole thing turned out to be pretty funny...
i eat out a lot. its just safer.
