Should I use a island and a table in my future kitchen?

To me it all depends on how big your kitchen is going to be.

Yes. The island can be used as a quick snack spot for one or two people (providing there is counter overhand to tuck away knees) and also be a serving space for buffet style dining. The table is for regular dining and especially a place to sit and chat with guests while munching something you've whipped up in your beautiful new kitchen.
