I got panic attacks at one time, and every once in a great while, feel one coming on. What helped tremendously was getting rid of every single bit of caffeine in my life....none at all! In fact, when I cheat and have chocolate, I feel the anxiety building up again. I also got a prescription for Xanax. I haven't taken any for years and years, but when the anxiety/panic was there, I got a lot of comfort knowing I had that medication around and I could take it if necessary. It's like a security blanket of sorts.

A bad thing about panic attacks is that they can be self-perpetuating because after you've had a couple, you become panicky about having panic attacks! That anxiety builds and pretty soon the anxiety about having a panic attack is almost worse than the actual attack itself and leads to further problems!

You know you're having panic attacks. You know you live through them, even though they are draining. Sometimes when you feel one coming on, just taking a deep breath and telling yourself...this is a panic attack, I am not dying, I am not going to die or pass out or get sick, this is going to pass and I'm going to be just fine...will help hold them off. When you start to get panicky about the attack, you start hyperventilating, your heart starts beating more quickly, the production of adrenaline in your body kicks up, and you feel physically terrible. Believe it or not, that can be controlled by your mind. You may need medication to help you control yours, but you can also help by using mind over matter, telling yourself that you are in control and that you will not allow it to take over you.

I don't know if you're in college, but if you are, go to student health services and sign up with a counselor. There are ways of controlling the attacks and getting a firm control of your life. You just need help working that out. Good luck!

I don't think fighting a panic attack makes it worse, but i don't think it makes it better either. Self talk can be very helpful when you're having a panic attack, but i also want you to try something else too. When you're feeling really anxious, or a panic attack is coming on i want you to practice slow breathing exercises. Take in a slow deep breath. Hold it for 7-8 seconds. Then slowly exhale. Repeat this until your anxiety subsides. Try it! It really works. I wish you the best!

Go to well-qualified hypnotherapist. Such practitioners treat panic attacks very frequently and know exactly how to help people to stop them from recurring. You can take control of panic attacks and it's relatively easy, if you are taught how to do it.

A hypnotherapist may also help you to find the initial cause of your problem - there may something there that is deeply 'buried' and was triggered by the film you watched.

Don't let anyone trivialise the experience that you have been through; panic attacks are very unpleasant especially the first time when you don't know what's happening to you. However, help is at hand and a hypnotherapist will take you and the condition seriously and provide you with the help you need. Don't worry.

I get them frequently too. Usually when i have something heavy on my mind or have a particular issue with something. For instance i am worried that my husband will leave me if i annoy him too much, so whenever we have an arguement i usually end up having a panick attack afterwards.
The only way to cure this is to find out what it is that you are afraid of. You will probably find that when you were watching the film you were subconsciously thinking about whatever it is you are afraid of... or maybe the film touched on it and it got you thinking.
It can be cured with anti depressants or maybe just a good councillor to talk to.
You dont need to tell your parents or friends about either of these things. The doctor will treat you with confidentiality.
It doesnt mean that you are a freak or different from anyone else... just that you have issues.. Once you have addressed them you will feel a whole lot better.
Trust me.. you need to find out what it is that triggers them first and then try to deal with this issue. It may take you weeks, moths or years but eventually you will find out what the route is and they will become less frequnt!!!
Good luck xx

Well, people who haven't experienced these type of things really don't know what you're going through. You don't state your age, but it could be hormonal changes that you're experiences coupled with the pressures, problems and other things that we experience in life as we learn, live and exist.

I would suggest seeing a councillor. Some may just want to see you for 15 minutes and tell you not to think about it. Good ones will spend more time with you, think about what's going on and give you helpful advice. Or, you may consider seeing a therapist to see exactly what's going on with you.

These things happen to other people but that's little comfort to you. First, I would look back at the times you experienced these attacks and think about the events happening immediately before them. Chances are, similar events happened to put you in this position.

If you can identify events that brought these attacks on, you can identify what may bring these attacks on in the future. That's a good step in progress. If you know these things, you can avoid or deal with the things that are causing these things to you. Good luck figuring out your inner self.

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

I suffer with them aswell and it isn't nice.I did come out of school through mine but i regret it so well done for sticking it out. What you have to try and remember is that nothing actually does happen to you,it's just a passing thing and you'll come out of it ok again. If you can feel one coming on try and do something else to take your mind off it.Stress to your parents/teachers how much it is upsetting you ask your mum or dad to take you to the doctors where they will be able to help either by referring you to a councillor or medication.Good luck and stay strong.

i have them a lot ,too. i have been following every episode to try and monitor when and why they happen, because people who have them alot means usually certain things in your life are making them so fequent, like for instance when i get them ,it is because of too much caffeine, not enough sleep por eating habits and stress.if i avoid these things it can really decrease how many u have.theyre noy going to go away because its a chemical imbalance in the brain which makes us react the way we do,but i've also learned that if you tell yourself through during a panic attack;i'm not going to die, breath slow and deep, lie down or relax wherever you are you get through them even faster beacause the more you panic the worse you feel.the worse thing that can happen is that you pass out,and even if you do its because you hyperventilate,so stay calm,ok?if you find you cannot control it by yourself there is great medicines out there for you until you work towards controlling them better, trazadone is one that works great for me,i stopped using it because i didnt want to be dependent on it so,try and if it doesnt work on your own definitely seek medical attention because it can be things in your life causing them to be so bad,ok?.......good luck and god bless,it is scary but you can get through them.

I also believe i get anxiety attacks. It is awful! I will be sitting there (usually on the bus) and then i'll just get that feeling like you are sinking... Like you can't breathe and are going to die. It's terrible! I know you can get medication for it, but i'm still in the process of getting depression meds and can't really add that to the pile at this point. Hang in there!
