That is too young to be sitting in the front...especially if you have air bags. If you get in an accident the airbags will do much more harm then good.

The law varies from state to state, but where I'm from, a child must remain in a booster until they are like 8, and I am certain that the booster must be in the back seat. I definitely do not think no matter where you're from that a 3 1/2 year old could ride in the front seat. But even after it is legally okay to move your child to the front, it is still safest for them to ride in the back. Especially if you have airbags. I would just tell your son that he has to ride in the back because it is safer.

Kids under the age of 12 need to be in the back.
Up to one year and 20lbs need to be in a rear facing infant seet. . .
Kids one year, and 20-40 lbs need to be in a 5 point seat that is forward facing. . .
Kids about the age of 4, when they are a minumum of 40 lbs can be put into a booster. Kids should be in a booster until they are about 7. ( the purpose of this is to make the seat belt in the car fit your child)
These are the laws for Colorado, I am pretty sure that they are the same in all states, just to be safe, your pediatrician will have all of the info. Just give them a buzz.

I'm in Canada - but it's a big no to have kids in the front seat. The new law here is booster in the back seat until they are 8 years old or 80 lbs or 4'9"

It's recommended that kids sit in the back seat until they are at least 13 years old.

Children should not sit in the front seat, espcially in a car with air bags, until they are 12 years old. Air Bags are designed to protect adults and can kill a child if there is an accident. Seriously think about not allowing your child in the front seat until they are much older.

no child should sit in the front seat of a vehicle! i think the law states all children be in a booster until the age 8 or 88 pounds, as for the front seat the risk of the air bags hitting the child in the case of a accident is a huge risk, think of it this way..... if your child is in the back seat at least you can hear them talk if they get plummeted with air bags youd never be able to hear your child again.

Your three year old is too young for the front seat. He is safest in the back seat. Doesn't matter what the law says. Use common sense. Air bags are dangerous for your son and could suffocate him in an accident. Also it could easily be flung from the car through the windshield.
Front seat privileges are appealing but stand firm on this one for both your sakes. Given in on something else.

You can easily find out by contacting your local highway patrol office, local police station, or even the Department of Motor Vehicles. In general, the rule is that your child needs to be 12 years or older to ride in the front seat. Before that, it is not safe for them to ride in the front seat. Keep your little guy in the back seat for now.

NEVER! A child should not sit in the front seat until they are over 100 lbs (or the size of a small adult).

Here's a link for the Michigan state booster seat law. http://www.infant-car-seats.com/states/car-seats-laws-Michigan.html It includes a graph of what your state requires as far as car/booster seats and the permissability of front seat placement.
