Definitely Nissan Altima!!! They are much more stylish, especially the 2008 body style. You will get a smoother ride and a wider range of options. Nissans or great cars. I would definitely go with the Nissan. Even the 98/99 versions of the Altima looks so much better than the 626. Altima! Altima! Altima!

Mazda 626 4 cyl uses a Ford CD-4E automatic transmission and it fails often. The 2003 altima might be more expensive but 1999 and 2001 Altimas are great cars no real engine or transmission issues. All providing the car was maintained oil changed ect. With a flash light look down into the oil filler and see if it looks like aluminum or is black sludge As always buy the best example you can afford.

If you want to buy a high quality used car with a lowest price for the most reliable,I suggest you try auto auctions.

There are there kinds of car auctions.
Dealer only auctions --- only licensed dealers are allowed to buy or sell cars,You can not get in or bid without being a licensed car dealer or an employee.

Public auctions --- the public is allowed in.In fact, you usually cant by anything from public 'open' auctions because usually the pricing is too high.

Government and Police auctions --- Every day, the government confiscates, seizes and repossesses thousands of Vehicles. These vehicles are usually typically listed at 90% OFF their original value and auctions usually start at $100.

Two months ago,I bouht a near new SUV from online police auction. It only cost me $730 and i have not had one problem with it yet .
I followed the guide on
http://www.usedcarsinfo.info/index.php?t=usedcar .That site listed top 5 Police auction sites and help you choose the best one.And if your budget is $5000,you can get a very coool one.
Hope that help you.

Out of those 2, I'd choose the Nissan also... But you might want to consider a Toyota or a Subaru... They are great cars...

take it to a mechanic that can tell if owners did oil changes and all maintenance. they can tell these things by doing several tests. I think both brand cars will be fine, but it's how well did owner take care of it. I think it's called "sludge", is what they will be looking for.
Good Luck
