I wouldn't normally copy and paste, but I'll make an exception this time.
Gen 3
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, WHO WAS WITH HER, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
***emphasis mine
He was with her, in the garden, at the tree listening to the serpent. Notice, their eyes were not opened until Adam took a bite.

No, I think that if Adam had interceded for Eve and not chosen her over God, things would be very different. It is because they both disobeyed that they had to leave. It is possible God could cleared Eve alone with a sacrifice and they both could have remained in the garden.
I heard an interesting thought about Adam and Eve;
it took Satan himself to deceive Eve, but Adam only needed a woman.
I don't believe Adam was with Eve when she was with the serpent. If he had been there he would have been part of the conversation.
Another point about the knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve both had all the knowledge about good. By eating from the tree they only acquired intimate, experiential knowledge of evil. God wanted to protect them from this, but in order to have a true relationship of free will he had to let them choose whether or not to acquire this knowledge.
As far as Eve's creation, the word translated as 'rib' comes from the Hebrew word 'ib'; it actually should be translated as a large part. The word has architectural meaning: a chamber, a ridge, a hillside, a section of the temple, rib. It implies a significant portion of Adam's body was removed.

Adam was responsible because he came first and he knew what was forbidden and what was not. He was actually supposed to be Eve's "teacher", so he knew. He was weak and didn't hold up his end. It would be like if your girlfriend "came on" to your father and he gave in. He is the adult and is responsible for the consequences of his action. Adam was the adult and should have known better. God warned them and he didn't heed that warning.

Your question is moot. No god would kick out his children for learning! If all parents followed this logic, all babies would be kicked out and orphaned after they uttered their first word.
In fact, if you read the bible, it said that Eve was created from Adams rib. This making Eve genetically identical to Adam. Which means that Eve is really a Steve.

Why do you think that Adam didn't know? He knew and hid. If he was innocent, then Eve would have been the only one punished.
