Today I was riding my bike, just for fun. There was a cable hanging over the street, it was hanging too low. At the last moment I saw that cable, I ducked. I was lucky to see it, or else my head would have been cut off.

When I visit this section and read the answers, do I really have to assume the following events happened?
1) the Devil woke up bored this morning, and hung a cable above some street
2) the Devil sat in his chair, waiting for me to pass that road
3) God woke up, he saw me riding the bike and called some angels
4) Angels landed on my shoulder, and moved my eyes towards the cable
5) Angels pressed on my back, to make me duck
6) The Devil is defeated again by a loving God.

Yay!

Is that really how things happen?

No. What happened is that you possess a learned and/or genetic predisposition to be observant of danger in your surroundings. That is what saved you. Your ancestors probably descended from a line of very clever, observant ape-like mammals.

You should thank your parents (or whomever raised you) for the good genes and lessons, and do whatever you can to have more intelligent, observant children and pass these attributes on.

This is such an interesting question! I believe in God as a spiritual entity, not as someone who pushes down on your back to protect you from a cable. Otherwise, I’d have to believe he’s also the one who killed my friend at a young age or infected my nephew with cancer. If he’s directly involved with the good things, we must assume he’s directly involved with the bad things… or not omnipotent.

I prefer the notion that the world is an idea in God’s mind and what happens is a factor of lots more than his specific will re a certain event.

You are free to live your life any way you choose. Cables or no cables hanging over the road. If you choose to reject GOD then you are on your own outside of a little conviction every now and again from the Holy Spirit.
If you ever do decide to come to GOD on GOD's terms through Jesus Christ, then you will have the option to turn your life over to the care and guidance of our Lord. Prayer will align your will with GOD"S will and then it will be something like what you described above.
May the Lord richly bless you.

Yes, I definitely think that the grace of God can save people from many catastrophes that may occur. But I don't think that the Devil put the cables down there so that you would hit them.... He only wants to harm people after he has taken control of someone else. That's just what I think.

First, you have to realize that God never sleeps. His eyes are in every place watching over the evil and the good. The devil's plan is to steal, kill, and destroy, but God will always save his children from trouble. The devil has no power over God and therefore, he is always defeated.

That's just lovely!

xoxox!

Well a bit litteral but I do believe there are things we are not aware of going on. Like dreams, sometimes a dream is just a dream and sometimes it's not! How do you tell?

I believe that cause and affect create a mass networking of events beyond comprehension. I believe in the space time continuim. I believe in energies and forces we cannot percieve. I believe in positive and negative forces. Good spirits and well not so well intended spirits. I also believe in 'INSTINCT!" Who saved your butt...ask?

Just... let the universe know how greatful you are!

Peace and appreciation. Gratitude!

whatever helps you sleep at night, did you call the cable company or the electric company and report it so as to not have to worry about the next guy or gal that might come along and almost get beheaded just in case none of those possibilities are true?

No.
You were riding down the street and your intuition saw into the future, saw you smacking into the hanging cable, and your intuition alerted you. You saw the cable in time and ducked, and then thought you were "lucky."

Or perhaps you were given the good common sense to observe your own environment. Why would each and every event be such an adventure to be acknowledged?

I don't know.
I'm glad you're okay. In the absence of God, I would suggest taking this up with the local authorities.
