Dictators sometimes like to have an elite unit which they can use as their own personal military or paramilitary force, such as Saddam's Republican Guard.

Nazi Germany had several military and paramilitary forces, as well as several police agencies. Which of them served to do Hitler's bidding when he wanted something done while bypassing the Reichstag?

Does Fidel Castro maintain a personal armed force? Did Idi Amin? Does Robert Mugabe? Did Benito Mussolini? Francisco Franco? Peron?

The 1st SS Panzer Division (LSAH), during Hitler's rise to power in the 30s, they were company, battalion and regimental size. During the war, they were upgraded to Panzer-grenadier and then full-fledged Panzer Division by 1943. Even at this stage of the war, a detachment from the Division was placed as Hitler's personal body guard.
