I learnt to ride my own bicycle when about 4 or 5, Prior to that I was riding the same cycle with stabiliser wheels on, I remember my aunt holding onto the cycle as I first used it with just its two wheels, in Tredington near Shipston on Stour, Warwickshire England.
I fell off a few times, but it was all a learning experience.
I actually forgot how to ride after that, and had to relearn many years later, I cycle a lot nowadays

My grandad taught me to ride a bike. I was about 4 years old, I think. I lived in a little village called Branston (like the famous pickle), in Lincolnshire. It was a shiny red one with fat tyres. I had stabilisers on for a while first but soon got the hang of it. I remember the day they were taken off and the wobbly feeling I got when I first had a go without them. I had the best grandad ever, sadly he died in 1987, (no I did not run him over on my bike!)

At the front of my house - a very, very, very, long time ago - remember when boys bikes had a bar across them - well I used to put my leg through and ride my dad's bike. I was about 5 or 6 years old.

well darren,
I started riding my bike yesterday but around the block to get warmed up. A person can ride a bike on the bike trail, you can ride your bike anytime. If you ride at night make sure you have a night light so other vehicles can see you coming. When I was younger it was on a school ground, children need supervision and their bike needs training wheels.

That's a great memory!
Mine: on the driveway and sidewalk in front of Mom and Dad's house, where they still live today. Don't know when exactly but I was probably 4 or 5 so that would be '70 or '71.

Jeez, I feel old.....As a kid in the mid sixties......my brother & I were brought up in childrens homes & he'd more often than not be running away, anyhow, this day he took me with him [he's only 18 months older than me & I was about 9 at the time] he stole a couple of bikes for us to get home on & I tried to cycle but not very successfully.....got tangled up in the road after flying off the pavement....so my brother stuck me on his saddle & he rode us home from Croydon to Catford standing all the way.......I never cycled again until about 9 years ago when my then 11 year old son took me out on a bike to re-teach me.....that lasted for about 3 months. He says I'm the only one he ever knew that could crash into a stationary car.....LOL :-)
I've over the past 3 months or so been "re-learning" all over again aided of course by my son [now aged 20] & my husband.......2 wks ago got my very first brand new bike.....I'm now 51 & I'm doing the London to Brighton bike run in June with my 22 yr old daughter.......mmmmmmmm! that should be fun....
Never one to give up me.......
I've actually mastered it this time & I'm out training 6 days a week at the moment....this time it's at Burgess park in Southwark......up & down the local back roads....& a few high streets.....one of these days I've got to do the roundabouts at Elephant & castle & I'm shitting it........
Sorry about the life story......

Well I personally learned on my "dead end" street so the only cars comming were the ones that live on the street. My daughter wants to answer as well.
Hi, I learned to ride a bike by my robert (my step dad) who also taught me to skate. He also taught me to be myself no matter what others think. These things were right on target however when he taught me to dance well lets just say it is unique, o.k. lets not lets say he taught me to dance WRONG but at least it is fun
