your question raises some interesting points.
because depending on what side of the fence you are on this word(stupid )has been used to describe the opposition.
creationists feel that the definitions of stupid apply to evolutionists.
i am a fairly intelligent person.i have a college degree.i worked as a nurse until i retired to be a stay at home mom.
I would be described as a person who contributes positive things to my community. In my little fundamental church. the majority of adults are college graduates.we have 3 paramedics ,2 firemen,2 teachers(1 retired) 2 guitar players 2 piano players 1 teaches piano.2 skilled carpenters.1 class 4 engineer, 2 town councilmen. my point is these people are involved daily in contributing to their small part of society, unaware that their "stupidity" is a hindrance to them.
as I'm sure many evolutionists do.
so now what?
the truth is,were talking about belief systems.and we cant fairly say on either side" you are stupid,! because you don't believe as i do"
.I have all the proof I need to believe as I do ,just as I'm sure you do.
when people immaturely resort to calling me stupid for my beliefs, I know it,s because they cant make me change my belief.
peace><>

it is frequently straightforward. even if if I come across many that do no longer attempt to tear evolution aside, they only reject it because of the fact they have been fed a straw-guy version that rather does sound ridiculous 'Monkeys grew into adult men' 'at some point a fish desperate to enhance legs' etc. they have been informed that's what evolutionists have self belief, and that they understandably laugh at it. while uncovered to lots of the information of evolution, they have an inclination to the two pass all 'l. a. l. a. l. a. i'm no longer listening', or turn in panic to 'scientific creationist' web pages like the risible 'solutions in genesis', which is composed of long words and articles by ability of folk who call themselves 'Dr', so they fortuitously cut back and paste what they definitely have self belief to be forged iron rebuttals of evolution, full of technology an' all!

Alot of people who believe in Creation are actually VERY intelligent. Isaac Newton, generally regarded as the greatest scientist in history, believed totally in the Bible and defended Christianity to the very end. So stupid is the wrong word because it defines a person with a low IQ - definitely not Newton! I think a better description is "living in denial" which has nothing to do with IQ.

Hmmm, I think you might try the term gullible instead. I know some pretty smart people that believe blindly in creationism. I say blindly because they feel it is an attack on them personally if you try to have an honest debate on the matter.
PS, Fr Guido Sarducci's Video link of Lewis Black is very hilarious and very true (except for the part when he said humans and dinosaurs never lived at the same time. Homo Sapiens date back to 250,000 years ago as well as Dinausaur bones that date back to 230,000 years ago)

Just like people who believe the Earth is flat there is not any real problem with creationists thinking that way. The problem comes when they decry science.
It is a sad fact that these fundamentalist Christian extremists are intensely intolerant of those who do not believe as they do and they are very anti science. It gets worse when they seek to impose their religious beliefs on everyone else by, for example, trying to force creationism to be taught in schools.

The definition fits; and violations seem to be handed out like Michael Jackson's candy to children lately.

Absolutely.
Trying to explain the Science and truth of Evolution to a creationist, is like trying to explain to a 4 year old that the moon does not follow her when she walks.
She simply doesn't have the intellectual capacity to understand the real, scientific explanation.
Thankfully, the 4 year old grows up.
Sadly, most creationists are no longer 4 years old and still don't have the intellectual capacity to understand.

I try not to call anyone stupid. I do think that faith clouds some people's ability to sort out fact from fiction, though. And the choice to believe in spite of facts to the contrary is pretty stupid.

I do think the definition fits. I don't know why we ***** foot around this one (check this, pu$$y will get starred - weird, eh?). I've done it myself, usually sticking with safe terms like "deliberately ignorant" or benighted attitudes towards science.
I believe Aesop's fables have great educational value but I believe they are fables. Unfortunately creation myths don't even have educational value and that scares believers.

No, it's not fair at all.
It's not fair to those who are just the regular stupid.... I think the word"creationist" should be an insult in itself. Reserve the word "stupid" for the stupid people... the word "Creationalist" is more than enough to understand the frame of mind of the followers.
You're stupid!
Oh yeah?? Well you're a motherf**king creationist!!!!
HOW DARE YOU!!!!!
