What does it actually do? I had it and deleted it, thinking it was what was causing the yellow line to come up saying,This could be harmful if you open this website click on Active X Control to see it. (not sure if I said it right word for word).. I just know I got sick of it..
Thanks for any help...

Many of the websites you visit have flash animation, and to play those, you will need the flash player.

It's not harmful to your computer, and if you doubt the source, simply go to www.adobe.com and click on downloads, find all their free stuff (acrobat, for example; and don't download their "trial" software, just the free stuff). All of that stuff will make your internet browsing experience more enjoyable.

The only concerns you should have with flash player are; is my computer fast enough (do I have the apropriate amount of RAM, and do I have a decent Video card in my system) Generally speaking, when your PC has "problems" it's due to not enough system resources, and the first two issues are generally RAM (not enough, or it's being divided with the Video (that means you don't have a video card, but rather a chip on the motherboard) and your video is taking up valuable RAM & cpu time... slowing the entire system down.

If you have a question of your system resources, try going to the manufacturer's website, put in your PC's model number, (Dell, for example, calls it an "express service code"), and it'll tell you exactly what you have for system resources... then contact someone who knows computers, and ask them (print out your system resources, and keep it handy; it's good to know, and you can bring it with you, to show a PC Tech).

As a bare minimum, a PC running XP, should have at least 512Mb RAM, and that's IF he/she also has a seperate video card, that has its own Video RAM. I hope this helped... feel free to email me, if you need help. mac01843

There's a couple other issues with Adobe as well that you might be aware of. First, many websites use Flash Player as their default advertising plug-in, and can therefore you're stuck wasting some of your bandwidth downloading advertisements. Without Flash, you'd be be looking at an empty advertising window. Also, there is still the chance that some hackers could exploit the Flash player and you could inadvertently get a virus from a video that is downloaded, but the odds of that are extremely remote anymore.

When using Firefox 2 windows appear frequently referring to Plugins and Stop Script. They are very annoying. Are these caused by Adobe Flash? Should I uninstall it?

Flash content is fancy interactive web gadgetry. It allows animation and really well-polished web sites to work. You should download it from Adobe.

To try it out, here are some places you might go:
www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail.html
www.addictinggames.com
www.tacticsarena.com

AFP is used in a lot of web sites so you can view their flash files, videos... you'll probably notice messages when you surf the net now that the site wants to download flash player in order to view the content on the page.

You can get it at www.adobe.com.

And about the active X warning.
That is a microsoft security feature, the bar is just a notification that the site you are on uses active X and IF IT IS NOT A TRUSTED SITE BY YOU, it might want to down load stuff to your computer. The site might not, but this is a warning that it uses script that allows it to.
It comes up on microsoft downloads sometimes
Click it to get o[ptions of allowing Active X for this down load, or change your security system to eliminate this warning and take your chances.
