I think the previous answer about babysitting, etc. is an excellent idea. I would imagine that it would be difficult to find sitters who could understand and handle the responsibilities of many autistic children.

Perhaps having classes to educate the community on autism. There are so many people who are willing to volunteer their time for a good cause and that would be such a hands on way to give back. I would imagine it would entail becoming familiar with autism and specific needs but what a great way to provide something practical and appreciated to the families.

If someone could babysit occasionally for them, it would be a big help; so they could get away once in a while. I don't know of any daycare centers that take handicapped children.
I have a brother who is autistic, so I know how it was growing up.

Provides low cost or insurance covered services for the children. Help educate parents and the community on Autism and provide early intervention screening.
