Steve Hays: "Unbelievers deny the existence of God because that gives them sexual license. Unbelievers deny the existence of God because they’re afraid of divine judgment."

Doug Jesseph: "As an atheist, I deny exist of all Gods: those of the Mayans, the Hindu, the Ancient Egyptians, and the God of the Old and New Testaments. If I am right, all of these are fictional constructs invented by clever humans for purposes, a variety of purposes, ranging from psychological comfort to entertainment."

The first quote is simply a shameful lie, a very common one told mostly by the Christians who apparently are terrified about the existence of intelligent, decent atheists. I agree with Fourmore below - it seems that Steve is having some kind of sexual problems, and looking for a scapegoat/distraction.

The second quote is an expression of the guy's opinion. I think he's right about the nonexistence of gods, but at least partly wrong about the origin of those fictional constructs. I don't think for a moment that the gods were created by an intentional "clever" act, but rather that these beliefs developed more gradually in much the same way that most rumors develop and spread.

The first quote is just a falsehood. Steve Hays is just projecting his own views onto a whole mass of people he knows nothing about.

The second quote exemplifies one of the main reasons why I don't believe in God. If there are 1000 different stories explaining an event, why would you believe any of them to be true?

I actually have heard a lot of atheists say that they don't want to be bound to religion. That they feel it is too restricting. I mean, come on - they claim that religion makes sex sacred and for Christians it makes abortion and homosexuality wrong. People leave these systems so that they can engage in behaviors that they chose to do. And not feel judged or bound by a system telling them 'hey, maybe you shouldn't do that.'

Jesseph does have some truth in his statement. But at the same time he only has a superficial understanding of what some of these systems intail and what they really beleived. The Pagan myths may have been created for the reasons he stated but these myths weren't always what were practiced. Read the writings of Celus or Pythagoras sometime to see what I mean.

Both quotes incorrect.

I believe in the existence of God, and BECAUSE of that, I have sexual license (my marriage certificate, said marriage took place in church). Note: only one license.

If you deny the existence of all Gods, then you cannot exist for by denying the existence of god, you yourself becomes a god. But since you know god does not exist, they you do not exist.

The first quote is just ridiculous and a very nasty insult to every well intentioned atheist the world over.

The second quote's a bit lame don't you think? It could be far more concise.

Wisdom Teachings always appear to be contrary, because human beings are contrary in nature. People only care about what pertains to them personally. But our Creator reaches out to All of us.

the second makes logical sense

The first quote tells us more about the speaker than it does about atheists.
