Genesis 7:20 indicates that the waters of the Biblical flod rose so high that they covered all the mountains. That means that the ark was at an elevation equal to or greater than the higherst mountain-tops.

Now, when people climb Mount Everest, they wear high-tech thermal gear and carry oxygen tanks. Even so anyone who makes an ascent returns the same day or probably dies. It's not because snow and hiking wears them out! It's because at that elevation, there is simply not enough atmosphere to retain heat or to breathe.

Noah, on the other hand, was at that elevation for 150 days (Genesis 7:24)! How is this even possible? Was the ark air-tight and equipped with enough oxygen for himself and all the animals? They can't even burn things to keep warm or it will make their oxygen problem far, far worse! Even if Noah was endowed with an almost superhuman respiratory ability, what about the multitude of animals?

My real question is.... Where did all the water come from & where did it all go after the slaughter had completed.

Everyone knows the rain cycle... water evaporates, condenses into clouds & rain falls from the clouds. It's a cycle of the water that already exists. There was so much extra water needed to flood the earth.... where did it all come from? Did god use his laser heat vision to melt the polar icecaps to flood the earth & then use his ice breath to reform it?! Oh wait, i'm thinking of superman..... nevermind!

Fairy tales are fun!

God had him build the ark to prove his faithfulness.
Others undoubtedly did the same when the water started falling and they all died. The continients were ripped apart and some went down and some went up. It was not a small event, the grand canyon was probably created at that time by ton's of displaced water. That is why rock strata is so hard to say how old the earth really is. It was compressed.
HOw did Jonah stay alive in the big fish probably a shark?
Or the three hebrew in the firey furnace when the soldiers that threw them in there died from the heat. Why didn't the Lions eat Daniel? HOw did the REd sea split apart. It wasn't just knowing how to manuver through it because it came back down on the Egypians. Or the tornado of fire called a pillar of fire that held them back.
God made the earth, sun, moon and stars. Also the human body. NOah was in the palm of his hand thinking he was riding the waves. God kept him safe along with 7 others to preserve the human race. I believe he further brought back some of the animals, that died in the flood waters.
Like in Australia, and some islands. We don't know what all he did do. but this is certain keeping them alive with out oxygen would be real easy next to making all the animals.

My Bible says it covered the mountains, not ALL the mountains.

Not that I'm apologizing for the Bible, but you have to remember that back in those days the known world was a lot smaller. It's not like God was operating a satellite news service, bringing you hourly updates about how this global catastrophe was unfolding in the Himalayas. And besides, The Flood was a metaphor.

all things are possible with God. God told Noah to build the ark and how to build it. He told him what animals to put in the ark. And God said He will take care of Noah and his family and God did that. God is way above us. There is nothing God can't do except sin. If Noah needed oxygen then God provided for him.

So that's why it took him more than 120 years to build the Ark! He had to ensure that the entire vessel could be pressurized!

And I thought it was just because he was usually too drunk to remember what he was building.

Read the really about Prophet Noah as the Holy Qur'an mention it

He (Noah) said: "Ride (all of you) therein, It will float in the Name of God. Surely, my Lord is Oft Forgiving, most Merciful." so it (the ship) sailed with them amidst the waves like mountains, and Noah called out to his son, who had separated himself (apart), "O my son! Join us and be not with the disbelievers." The son replied, "I will take refuge on top of a mountain, it will save me from the water." Noah said: "This day there is no savior from the Decree of God except him on whom He has mercy." And a wave came in between them so he (the son) was among the drowned.

It was said: "O Earth! Swallow up your water, and O sky! Withhold (your rain)." The water was diminished (made to subside) and the Decree (of God) was fulfilled (the destruction of the people of Noah). And it (the ship) rested on Mount Judi, and it was said: "Away with these Pagans arrogant oppressors!"

Noah called upon his Lord and said, "O my Lord! Truly, my son is of my family! Certainly, Your Promise is true, and You are the Most Just of the judges." God said: "O Noah! Surely, he is not of your family; verily, his work is unrighteous, so ask not of Me that of which you have no knowledge! I admonish you, lest you be one of the ignorant."

Noah said: "O my Lord! I seek refuge with You from asking You that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have Mercy on me, I would indeed be one of the losers."

It was said:

"O Noah! Come down (from the ship) with our peace and blessings upon you and on the people who are with you (and on some of their offspring), but (there will be other) people to whom We shall grant their pleasures (for a time), but in the end a painful torment will reach them from Us."
(Qur’an,11:41-48)

Noah’s deluge. To understand you have to start with Gen.6:1.
Gen.6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
The word “men” is Heb. (ha-adham) means “the man Adam” or his progeny. The word “them” is referring to Adam and Eve. The scripture is talking about Adam and Eve’s clan and not mankind. Mankind a subject for another time.
Gen.6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
The term “sons of God” means angels or fallen angels. The word “men” again means Adam and Eve’s progeny or clan. Satan was trying to corrupt God’s plan. That is, from umbilical cord to umbilical cord would come Christ. This is why Eve is called “the mother of all living”.
Gen.6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
The word “perfect” Heb. (tamin) means “without blemish as to breed or pedigree”.
Gen.6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
The word “earth” Heb. (erets) means “land”, not the whole earth. Besides God says, “to destroy all flesh” in Adam’s clan.
Gen.7:24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
Gen.8:11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
If the entire globe had been under water 150 days, where did this olive leaf (pluckt off) come from.
Gen 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
Remember what God said in Gen.6:17, “to destroy all flesh”. Here God makes a covenant with Noah and his sons. Neither shall all flesh be cut off any more. Neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. Two floods. One for flesh, Noah’s deluge. One to destroy the earth back in Gen.1:2. The global flood is a subject for another time.
Some consider the plateau of Pamir to be the original Eden. This probably was the homeland of Adam's descendants up until the time of the Flood. Today it’s known as the Tarim Basin or Eastern Turkestan. This region is surrounded by a ridge of very high mountains forming a gigantic basin in the midst of them. It measures 1,000 miles long and is about 350 miles wide.
Ussher’s Chronology says 2348 B.C., Davidson says November 2345 B.C. to November 2344 B.C. for Noah’s deluge.
Records of the Sumerians in Mesopotamia., their King Lists date to about 3350 B.C., and show an ongoing civilization well through the period of the flood. Egypt felt nothing of the deluge, they had an uninterrupted succession of Dynasties. China's civilization during the Yao Dynasty (between 2400 B.C. – 2200 B.C.) with no record of a cataclysmic interruption.
So Noah’s deluge was a local flood. But there was a global flood in Gen.1:2. Study II Pet.3:5-7, Jer.4:23-27.
Psa.104:6 Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. Psa.104:7 At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
Gen 1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
