Our local hospital hit the headlines the other day by banning hot-cross buns in case it offended non Christians! Surely the non Christian patients could have said 'no thank you' if they had been offered one!
The only answer so-called politically correct people have is to ban things. Ban this, ban that ban everything then everybody will be happy! I don't think so! Let's not forget we are a tolerant Christian country at the end of the day and we allow other religions to join us in this green and pleasant land. Christians do not get on their high horse when muslims, jews etc have their traditions, no one will be offended by a hot cross bun surely? What do you all think of it?

As a Muslim living in the UK (not just living but born and raised in scotland to be exact) i am so sick of hearing this and that is banned because it is offensive to other faiths.
I for one am not offended by hot cross buns, Easter eggs, Christmas lights, Christmas carols in shops, decorating streets. No one ever has asked me does this offend you. No one has ever asked any Muslim i know does this offend you. So where these PC do gooders get there information from i dont know.
If it is Christmas and someone gives me a Christmas card I say thank you in the gesture in which the card was given, i am not offended. And i just send Easter cards to some of my christian friends because they are celebrating it.
I have to say though where do you see any celebrating of Ramadan or Eid where you live? I live in England and there is nothing not even a card in shops to buy, so i would love to know how you tolerate an event you dont see anything celebrated about it. Maybe a few streets in London on the evening of Eid but that's it.
Which Muslim was on there high horse about hot cross buns? Do you know that a single Muslims was behind them being banned? I doubt it.

I agree it is taking the biscuit because i am sick of Muslims being blamed for what others deem offensive. It is certainly not coming from the Muslim community that's for sure.

Oh i believe you its true. But i dont believe other faiths asked it to stop. PC do gooders do and they dont ask the opinions of the ones THEY are supposidly speaking for.

Because as a muslim i can say without a doubt THEY are not speaking for me or any other muslim i know. Its a good propeganda tool to make people think "bloody muslim can we have nothing now. If they dont like it go home" (GOING HOME WOULD BE GLASGOW FOR ME LOL) This is the mindset behind the people who make it up. Getting others to become intollerant towards the so called faiths that are objecting to it.
Why on earth would it bother another faith for you to eat a bun?Its ridiculous. Does it bother anyone else that i eat Halal meat? Of course not.

DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!

We in India (a predominantly non Christian country) get hot cross buns from bakeries on Easter Sunday. They were distributed free for all of us Church goers on that day in S. India and let me say they were better made than the usual buns of other days. Of course they were bought from regular bakeries manned and run by non Christians. Where exactly did this episode occur?

Here is what I think, these people have no Christian leanings and the Bush administration as well as Blairs government are not faithful Christians either to allow this madness against the Christian faith to go unchallenged, this Pc mentality is anti-Christ in nature while pretending to be for the welfare of peoples, most faiths that I have come into contact with do not care if buns have crosses on them or if we call Christmas and Easter by their names, this is all down to Atheistic communism which is still working against Christianity in a big way.

I agree, I don't know where you are from , but here in Australia some kindergartens have banned Christmas trees and carol singing in case it offends the Muslims. The Muslims I have asked say they are not at all offended...... but still no Christmas tree for the little ones. I think its ridiculous. I'm an agnostic, and I ate a hot cross bun this year....

Its ridiculus. Ive said to friends many times how annoying it is that our rights as christians are limited as it might offend 'non christians'. Did you know that in September of last year Alton Towers held a Muslim Only day? If a "Christian Only" Day was held what's the chances someone would claim that it's being discriminating in someway against other religions. The problem is we are too damn frightened of being accused of being racist or offensive to the minorities that we daren't stick to our traditions in what is a christian country. Just for this small rant of mine, I'll probably be accused of being discriminating towards other religions - Which I can assure you is not the case. I appreciate other cultures and religions but when it comes to England, some of them unfortunately don't appreciate our culture. For example, going to Iran - the woman sailor who was captured was forced to wear a Muslim veil. If we banned muslims from wearing their veil's completely there would be uproar. As I said, I don't mind people who are non christian or non english entering England, it's just that I do believe if they want to live here they should follow our rules.

(PS - Im no BNP supporter or anything, and Im certainly not ignorant on political affairs.) I have absolutely nothing against Muslims - One of my very good friends is Muslim. I realise it's the government's tolerant and ignorant attitude that has caused this.)

If it's tru its redic. Honestly a cross doesn't have to have any religious signifigance. Tell them they are looking at it wrong. Spin the bun and say see its really an X. Also tell them it is art and their is freedom of expression. Whats next changing the signs on the cross walk. Oops perhaps I shouldn't have given anyone ideas.

How terribly gracious of you. I'd swear you must be American, but the green and pleasant land bit smacks of England. They're both secular countries as far as I know.

Either way, any sympathy I might have had for your position goes out the window when you display this kind of arrogance. Get over yourself - hot x buns are too "healthy" to be served in a hospital anyway.

I so agree with you.

I think people that choose to live in OUR country should
live by OUR rules. They don't mind when it comes to
Benefits, NHS, Housing etc., Surely our Government
should be thinking of their own people!

I have friends that are in need of a three bedroomed
house, only to be told that all the properties are
allocated for Asylum Seekers!

One despairs!!
