If you don't agree with a fellow believer or an unbeliever, fine. But why the rudeness ? Doesn't the Bible teach that we should be polite ?

We all need God's grace for us too. Many people here portray to be Christians but you do not really know who is the person behind the avatar, and where they are in their Christians walk.

So many 'people' seem to be ungracious in their answers.

Maybe they relish the freedom that anonymity brings. Maybe they feel strongly and their strength of opinion is taken for ungraciousness by others. Or perhaps they just tire of hearing things which their beliefs consider to be 'wrong' repeated all the time. Who knows?

But they are not all Christians. Ungracious people come from all walks of life. That's part of R&S I guess.

Actually it doesn't. One of the Disciples was a quick tempered hot head.

It's a misconception Atheists hold that Christianity is like Prozac.

You're confusing that religion with the one Quay Chang Caine had in Kung Fu. Them guys are supposed to be nifty and cool all the time, even when they are beating you up.

And the rudeness usually starts with the generally infantile question.

CAN GOD MAKE A ROCK SO BIG HE CAN'T LIFT IT?

Why doesn't Sky Daddy save Xtians from Cancer?

Some here like Jim Darwin used to ask pretty hard, valid and deep thinking questions and he generally got good answers and only the trolls would make flippant remarks.

But don't expect any Christian to show respect that 14 year old troll David who gets on will a silly Jedi style avatar and asks totally vapid questions.

The Bible teaches that there is a time for politness and a time when you should not
tolerate bad behavior. There is no such thing as a Christian who is supposed to be
a wimp. Polite, sure. A wimp who puts up
with God being insulted - no. Christians are not your doormat.

You are supposed to be respectful - but that does not mean you need to compromise your beliefs in the process.

Some questions are hostile and nasty - trying to start a verbal onslaught against Christians, or just against faith in general. Is it good to be polite and to allow this person to keep posting such nonsense? Or does one stand up for what they belief regardless of whether they come off as polite and docile?

I can also tell you that the Jews have an interesting take on this. They believe that if you try to convert one of them to a different religion they no longer need to be polite to that person. They have not respected you or your beliefs, they are not having a conversation but are trying to get you to desert your faith for theirs. Hence politness goes out the window.

I happen to agree with them - and I know from what I've seen that the most nasty answers from Christians seem to be to those questions trying to convert them.

"Ungracious" is an understatement. Frankly, the main activity of Christians here seems to be lying about others.

I'm with Juan - I feel sorry for the decent Christians who come here (and yes, there are several). Their religion is very poorly represented on R&S.

Unfortunately, many people do misrepresent God. There was a revivalist named George Whitefield (born 1714) who dealt with this issue in his lifetime. Whitefield's conclusion was, "They do not possess what they profess." Sadly, this problem endures today.

Well, even if the Bible doesn't specifically say it, I daresay your Sunday School Teacher has!

I wonder, though, how often the most rude and crude statements of people who are claiming membership in a particular religion are actually trying to discredit that religion.

No and isn't it funny how Christians are beat over the head all the time on here and then the same people try to tell us that "our religion" says we can't fight back? Quite funny really.
And, anyway it is just words, and mostly words that maybe have a sting to them but that is not being impolite, in my view.
What is the point of being a believer if you won't stand up for what your beliefs teach you? Christians have been more then tolerant enough, anyway.
