At about 5-6weeks start gently transitioning them into wet food, mixed with milk or water. This makes the food softer and easier to chew. Every other day, decrease the amount of water you give them, so they will become gradually accustomed to eating more and more solid foods. If you don't want/like wet food, start out with it until there is no water left then give them hard food with water mixed and to soften it and do the same thing- decrease the amount every other day. This really works and is so much easier on the puppies teeth and stomachs. Best of luck!

You can introduce puppy mush at 4 weeks old. Puppy mush is, Puppy food put in a blender chopped up fine add water to make a oatmel like mush. If your using canned puppy food them mash it up with a fork and add warm water to make it a bit more liquid. You can start with 2 feeding a day and then increase it after a few days to 3 then 4. The pups should also still nurse until they are 6 weeks old. After that you can feed the pups puppy food (if dry) mixed with warm water 3 times a day until 8 weeks old. Remember never sell a pup before 8 weeks of age.

You can start feeding puppies a high quality food made into a grual at about 4 weeks old.
To make the gruel soak high quality food in water until it expands, and then mash it. You want to start with a consistency of thick oatmeal. Give it to the pups in an easy to clean area, they are messy eaters at first.
Over the next few weeks gradually reduce the amount of water you add until they are eating completely solid food.
They should remain with mom until at least 8 weeks of age for good social and mental development. Puppies taken away from mom to soon have a greater chance of developing behavioral issues later in life, such as seperation anxiety.

I am totally amazed at the ignorance of some of the people who have answered you question. (5 months indeed)
Start giving the pups just a tiny bit of good quality puppy food at about 3 - 4 weeks by six weeks they should be fully weaned. If they try to feed off mum after this time discourage them.
At about 3 weeks put a little of the puppy food gravy on your finger and gently wipe it on the puppies lips to show them what the are missing out on

It depends on the breed of dog, how many are in the litter & wether Mum is still coping. We normally start to introduce 1 sloppy meal per day at 3.5weeks and gradually add another meal every 2 to 3 days until they are on 4 meals a day. They still get to feed off mum when ever she feels like feeding them.

Firstly it depends on the age and size of the dog. When my dog had pups she was ill and we were feeding from 2 weeks of age. They were on weet bix mixed with farax (baby rice bought from most supermarkets with puppy milk, mixed to a sloppy mix. Generally when there eyes are open you can start feeding them high quality dried food soaked in warm puppy milk. (lactose free)
