I would like to ask how is your view of the song "cats in the cradle". i am an overseas contract worker. i would like to see my children. play with them. talk to them. but i cannot. i am stuck here in a stupid country earning money for their needs and for their future. i want to show them how much i love them. i don't want to my son to growing up with the impression that I don't love them because i had no time for them. the truth is they are my life. I love them more than my father love me. but i cannot do anything. so sad. so sick

Basicall the song is about a man who was too busy to be there for his children, but it sounds to me like you are a wonderful parent, just keep in contact with your family and make the time to write, email, phone and get in touch with your kids any way you can. Im sure they know that you are trying to build a future for them, the important thing is to always tell them that you love them and that you are always thinking of them, no matter where you are in the world!

I wish you the best of luck, and please dont feel too guilty, as long as your kids know they are loved they will be just fine.

(NOTE: This answer is based on the assumption that you are not under any obligation to work in this other country other than contractual)
That's an old song, I grew up with it around. It's about choices we make. It is no less difficult now as it was when that song was written, and the answer is just as hard to swallow. Emails, webcams and phone calls can help, but your kids are growing up 24/7 and you need to decide whether working so far away is worth it.
In your place I'd satisfy the existing contract, come home and work near my family. As for loss in pay, well, they cannot bond with material things any more than they can bond with an image on a computer screen. (I said the answer is tough! ) Downsize the lifestyle if needed. There really is no other way because no one can be in two places at once.

The song is about a man that is to busy to spend time with his son because he is always busy working. In the end his son turned out just like him, putting everything before his family therefore being just like his father.
I think it is more important to be close and spend time with your family than having "things". Try finding a job where you can be near and spend time with your children. They will be better of in the end for it. Good luck and god bless!

Maybe you could try a web cam. You can to the web conference thing. You can see them, and they can see you.
They can talk to you about school and what not....
make it a once a week thing.
If you can't do the web cam thing, you can do a once a week phone call?
Good luck.

Well, talk to them often (don't worry too much about money spent on the phone calls), ask them what's going on in their life. tell them often why you are somewhere else in the world instead of being with them. tell them you can't wait to get back to them. and tell them often that you love them.

in the song, the man makes excuses for not playing with his son and kind of brushes him off. it's apparent that the child is second in his life.this, i feel, is different. even though you are far away from your kids, they can still know you love them and want to be with them. write to them often. ask them all about their lives and tell them of yours. when you talk to them, listen to everything they say and ask questions. by asking, they know you're listening. send them pics of yourself and interesting things of the country you're in. have them send pics to you and talk to them about them. tell them you love them and miss them all the time. let them know who you are and that even though you have to be away, they are first in your life.
i'm sure your living far away is tough on everyone involved but, as long as they know you and you know them, when you come home, it will make it easier. good luck and try not to worry to much.
