This is what happend I did my fiancees taxes online. I thought I made sure I typed in everything but I didnt. Since I messed up on his federal I missed typing in state income tax . since I missed typing in state income tax they sent him a form stating he owed them almost $300. which he dont owe them since I figured out what I did wrong . I went back in and fixed it and now its saying that state owes him $24.00.
My question is what do I do to fix that sort of thing please explain?

If you can go back and get money returned to you after owing $300 then you are doing something right and you should be advising others. Not asking questions on what to do about it.

As a former tax preparer for H&R Block, I will have to say this much about your tax situation......
I wish you did it the conventional way, which is using paper forms and when making an error, using a form to fix the error (known as 1040X...you have three years in which you can go back to fix an error).
With computers, this opens a whole new can of worms I'm not familiar with.
What may happen is that the State will make the necessary corrections and then notify you.
Since the result is in your favor, I'd give it some time for them to mail you a refund.
You should know that some states are so complex and difficult to understand, while other states are easy and in some cases, have no taxes due.
New York State is more complex than the Federal.

You'll need to file an amended return with both the federal and the state. If your software lets you do amended returns, you can use that, otherwise get the forms. You'll probably have to mail in the amended forms.
For federal, if now he doesn't owe anything after the correction, just mail in the 1040X amended form - you wouldn't have to send any money. If he still owes, but owes less now, send what he owes.
For state, just send the form, and eventually he'll get his refund.

Once you've filed the return (no matter how you did it), any corrections must be made by filing an amended return. For federal income tax, that is form 1040X. As far as I know, that cannot be filed electronically and must be sent in on paper.
I'm sure that every state has some method of doing an amended return. Check your state's department of revenue web site for information about the correct form to use in your state.

File an amended return. Go to the www.irs.gov web site, use the search thingy for amended return, it is all spelled out, it is no big deal and you are not in any serious trouble. Good luck.
