Because christians (and to be fair, other faiths) aren't concerned with raising honest, decent, compassionate, kind, loving and honorable kids. They're concerned with raising judgemental, strict, ignorant, robotic kids who will grow up to judge your kids and tell them they're going to hell. Christianity is the most closed-minded religion ever conceived and whoever it is that's trying to convince you that you're going to raise a horrible kid is actually hurting their religion. This explains why christianity continues to get smaller and smaller. Ignore them...they are going away.

Why is it that those who do not believe in God cannot comprehend the fact that some parents want their children to grow up knowing their Creator?
It goes both ways. Why is it that most atheists on here cannot fathom the idea that Christians and other theists actually can have an IQ over 100? That raising children in a faith is not child abuse by any means?
I was raised in a Christian household - and went for 14 years to a Catholic school. I don't think my parents did anything wrong - and in many ways my childhood was better for it.
So why not let people be to do what they chose to do. And raise their families as they see fit. The only reason this is an issue for atheists is because they make it one and demand acceptance from Christians and other religions for their actions.

Because they believe their virtues are a result of being Christians. If they really believe that, they probably also believe that if they had not been brought up Christian, they would be wild little animals who had no morals at all.
But there is a natural moral value, compassion. And there are moral values which are really practical matters to living in a modern world, such as honesty, which gives you a good reputation and facilitates many social interactions. It was a businessman who said "Honest is the best policy," after all. People cooperate to create a community in which it is more pleasant to live as much for their own reasons as because someone is enforcing a moral law.
Or to put it another way, there's no utility value to making enemies.
And love is a natural force we all need, no matter what religion, or no religion at all. In fact, it has been argued that Love is All You Need.

I'm a Christian, and I can comprehend that. However, without faith and doctrine, what reason would the child have to remain honest, decent, compassionate, kind, loving, and honourable? He/she can simply stop being those things at anytime because there are no laws the child can go by to help along the walk through life. Faith in God gives us the strength to remain all of the things you've described, even when we don't think we can do it.

i can remember my primary school teacher telling me that you can be as nice as possible but if you weren't a christian you'd go to hell.
now, i went to a government school! i know that's not an answer to your question, so i suppose i'd better pontificate on that subject as well.
unfortunately some versions of christianity (some very virulent ones) teach that if you turn away from god you are bound to go astray, despite your best intentions. this stems from an extremely strict literalist interpretation of some texts that may be more poetic in nature, not meant to be interpreted literally.
now, it's a very easy step from that to claiming that noone can be honest decent and compassionate etc without faith in god. in fact i have experience this myself. i'm an atheist, and i can remember being told by a christian that i was a murderer, a rapist, and a child molester, just because i was an atheist!! that was after he got over the fact that because i don't believe in any GODS, i must follow SATAN as a GOD!!!
such is the mentality that we're dealing with here...vale to you

My first problem with this is in Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
My second problem with this is Isa 64:6 But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
We our righteousness is worthless, and we live in a world that has a total death rate, as far as belief in God in the bible in James 2:19-20 satan believes in God and trembles, its not enough to believe but to BE-LIVE, you and i live on probation brought to us by The Living Christ, and if your probation ended today and all you had was what you call honest, decent, kind, you would also be lost In Acts 2 the last chapter we are told Jesus [the second member of The Godhead] added daily to THE CHURCH as such as should be saved so it appears God decided it IS a must to belong to God AND Church, find out more free on line bible lessons www.amazingfacts.org talk to me also wgr88@yahoo.com God bless

The family I was born into to gave me no choice other than Catholicism. I think I would not be so against that religion if it was not forced upon me. Parents think that raising a child with religion will somehow make them a better person and have a better life. That isn't true at all but these cults we call religion are forced on children. Sometimes it back fires.

The first thing you should do is to educate the child there are
many different peoples and faiths around. Don't make him
a hero in your religion and a fighter against all others. The
world is meant for all of us. Or we will die together. See
whether you go to heaven or not.
The trouble now is everybody thinks he is the ONLY one
around - and nobody else.

On one said this is impossible. Christian do believe however that all goodness initially comes from God. So if you are a good, decent, loving, honourable person who has nothing to do with God then your parents did and if they didnt then their grandparents did. No one gets higher values randomly

I understand that, I also understand that some kids raised in Christian homes come out liars thief's and murderers. I also believe that most of the morals followed by society today came from Christianity. Relativism and Humanism leave morals to the individuals personal thoughts. Your idea of what is morally right, may be far different then mine.
