I was wondering if anyone knew of any Purina dry cat food being recalled or has anyone else had problems with it? I have two cats, one of which was put on a diet so I purchased Purina Cat Chow Lean. The following day, my youngest cat began throwing up repeatedly. I had to take him to the vet two days in a row where they had to put him on medication and inject him with fluids...twice!! I haven't seen anything about this brand being recalled but it's so hard to keep up or find the most updated sites. The only that changed was that I began mixing his regular food (Purina Cat Chow Indoor formula) with this food the day before. Although it doesn't contain wheat gluten, it does contain corn gluten and wheat, so I'm concerned that there might be something wrong with this food as well. I haven't fed it to him since and he's been fine but I'd like to know why he got so sick. If anyone knows anything, I'd appreciate their help.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the quick responses. I'm still in the process of researching this. I've discovered that Medi Cal is on the list, albeit wet food they say. I was provided a package of this by my vet prior to purchasing the Purina Lean cat food so now I'm not sure if it was the Purina or the Medi Cal that might have done it. I will continue to research this and hopefully come up with an answer as to what the cause was.
thanks again.

Wow, you guys are quick! In answer to some of your comments, he's 4 years old and has never had any issues before so I dont' think that was the issue given the fact that it was such a small amount mixed in with his usual food. He does get home made little treats from time to time and, as far as contacting the manufacturers, given what I've seen in the news and how Medi Cal assured the FDA that no tainted food reached Canada when in fact it had, I'm not sure I really want to trust them.

The list of tainted pet food seems to be growing bigger day by day.
The culprit seems to be wheat gluten, so just to be on the safe side, stay away from any pet food ( wet or dry ) that contains wheat gluten whether it appears on any of the recalled lists or not.

I am sorry to hear about your cat. As far as I've read there were no Purina dry cat food that was on the recalled list. I also feed my cats Purina Indoor Formula mixed with Pro-Plan Salmon & Rice Indoor Formula since I had them; one is already 4 years old and the other one would be a year old in May. They are both healthy active cats. I have the website below on my gmail page so I would be updated with the latest on this recall. I also have CNN and other websites on this page. You might want to check this site regularly. As far as why your cat got sick, your vet should be able to tell you that.

I have been giving my cat Purina cat chow complete formula during the recall and I have had no problem at all. Purina does not send out their dry food out of the states to be made and I have recieved 3 emails from Purina and 2 of them was from consumer affairs and they have told me that their food is ok and I do have a full bag that has not been opened yet and I emailed them yesterday twice to see if I could get a person to email to without their letter showing up. I hope they email me today. If not I will get intouch with one of their mentors and I will email them them and see if I can write to someone there.
The food I give my cat does not have wheat gluten in it.
In the bag of cat food they will put in a sample of food in a can that is wet food I don't give my cat that I will throw it away because I don't give my cat wet food at all. I have been told that cats will get sick if you change the food to fast. I have been giving my cat Purina cat food for 5 years without a problem. There is a place where you can email consumer affairs on the purina site and I will give you the link to the email site for purina.http://offers.purina.com/contactus/contactus.aspx?sourceBrands=18 and this will take you to where you can email consumer affairs for Purina.

Hi, Rest assured there aren't any Purina products on the recall list. Also, the only dry cat food contaminated is by perscription. Here is a website that may help. I give my kitten & cat purina kitten chow & cat chow & they are fine. Of course, these brands were not on the list. Plus my cat is in gestation & is doing fine.

Your cat may just have a sensitive stomach. Cats, and dogs for that matter, don't tolerate sudden changes in their food. You may not have mixed in enough of his old food with the new. My cat does the same thing if I switch brands. I have to make the change very, very gradually or I will be cleaning up cat puke every time I feed him.

You need to phone Purina and talk to them. That's the BEST way to calm your nerves. If there's a problem that hasn't shown up yet, they would want to know.
