You should stop worrying. Cats statistically are much less likely to have rabies than many other animals. Cases of rabid cats account for less than 10% of all reported rabies cases.
Secondly rabies infection in humans usually takes between 1 to 3 months from the time of exposure to manifest itself; at three years from the time of exposure the chances of you having rabies is close to zero.
There are tests available to detect rabies, but i'm sure that if your doctor thought you were at risk, he would have had you tested.
Like I said earlier, you should stop worrying. I too have been bitten and scratched by cats and am not worried. The only reason you would have to worry is if the cat that bit you was sick with rabies when it bit you. I don't know whether or not you had an opportunity to see that cat after the incident, but if you saw that cat alive more than 10 days after the incident, it didn't have rabies, so it wouldn't be possible for you to have it.

I am an RN
You are in NO danger of contracting rabies from the cat bite 3 years ago.
I think you may have some kind of anxiety disorder which may mean you are thinking and worrying alot about things that havent happened and might never happen. It is very hard to control this worry and can make your life very hard.

Anxiety and depression can be treated with medication and therapy.
Perhaps you could talk to your doctor about your worries and depression. There is no need for you to worry about rabies or any other problem from the cat bite.

Goodluck

In other parts of the world, dogs are the primary vector of human rabies. In the United States, widespread rabies vaccination programs for dogs have made them a less frequent source of transmission. Less stringent rabies regulation for cats and ineffective control of strays have made the cat the most commonly infected companion animal in the United States.

Rabies spreads among susceptible mammals by contact with infected saliva, usually through a bite by a carrier animal. Exposure to saliva through any break in the skin will also transmit the disease. The time from exposure to the time a cat shows symptoms may be as long as six months.

If you were bitten some three years ago by a cat. and neither the cat nor you showed any rabies symptoms; then most likely; you're not infected with rabies. And you have nothing to worry about.

Tetanus (Lockjaw ) is an acute, often-fatal disease of the nervous system that is caused by the nerve toxins( poison) of the spores of the bacterium called Clostridium tetani. This bacteria is found throughout the world as a normal element in the dust, soil and in animal waste and human intestines. And this bacteria thrives in the contaminated wounds.

Tetanus spores can enter the body through a wound that is contaminated with soil, dust, or animal waste. Spores can get into the body through even a tiny pinprick or scratch, but they usually enter through deep puncture wounds or cuts, like those made by nails or knives. Tetanus spores can also get into the body when skin is damaged by burns or by injecting contaminated street drugs. Once the spores enter a wound, they produce a powerful nerve poison that spreads through the body and causes painful symptoms.

In all likelihood, the area that you were bitten by that cat is now completely healed. Therefore you don't have tetanus nor rabies or you would have been dead by now.

I hope by informing you of the above facts, you will be made aware that your apprehension is unnecessary. I hope to allay your anxieties and put your mind at ease. Hopefully, you won't be so worried sick thinking about possible detrimental outcome in the future. Time heal all wounds. I strongly suggest that you stop worrying and stressing yourself needlessly. Stress can also have negative effects on your health and psyche.

This worry might be one major cause for your depression. It's a healthy thing to express your anxieties but it's not very beneficial for your mental health to continue on this unfounded worry, anxiety, and ...depression.. Move on with your precious life.!

Hello, I am NOT a doctor, but...
If it's been three years since you were bitten by that cat and since you were treated by a doctor after the bite, I really feel you are worrying needlessly.

If by now you don't have any pain or symptoms of any disease, I don't think you should worry.
If, on the other hand, you do not feel well or something physically is bothering you then, by all means, see a doctor for a checkup. But, if you feel fine then, stop worrying.
Don't worry - be happy!

it has nothing to do with the cat bite... 3 years is along time if nothing happened in the first few weeks then nothing will happen. If you are depressed then go to the doctors it has nothing to do with the cat
