I just found a tick on my shih tzu's head today! It was small, and when I found it, it was still scrambling about, trying to get away from me. I was able to get it out, and when I killed it, there was some blood in it. I don't know if it already sucked my dog's blood or not, but when I found the tick, it wasn't buried inside my dog's skin. So...with that in mind, should I be worrying? I don't understand how she can get a tick when she's on Advantage and her next monthly dosage isn't even up yet!

Yes, u should. Ticks are a very serious problem, when theres small ticks around theres a big female one around. once they get to it they wil mate, and when the female tick lays her egg, wow you are in big trouble.

The best thing you should do is to go to the vet once you see a tick, and they wil give you some tick spray or medicene, this will usually make the ticks drunk and they wil just drop straight off your dog's body.

If left untreated, this is a big problem, they wil keep multiplying , and will get all over your walls!

So plzz cure your dog before the ticks get your dog.

If you removed the tick fully, you don't have to worry. It will always be some blood, but watch the sore (if any) in case it will be a infection. If so, go to the vet. Also check that the tick has lot laied any eggs.
For me it does not sound that the brand of tick control is working too good on your dog, or, the reason the tick did not go inside the skin is because the medication still works.
Try a tick collar or another brand, like FrontLine for example if you'd like.

Usually ticks have blood in them after a meal, but if you say it was small it's possible that it could have some from it's last victim. You shoul really take the dog to see a vet and ask him for something for external parasites. Anyway don't wory too much. There are few chances that a single tick could seriously harm your dog.

I wouldn't really worry. There are medication for ticks and fleas both. Even if a dog is on this medication you can still find ticks on your dog. They will just not bury themselves. My dog is on Top spot that is for fleas and ticks. I would call my doctor to see if the medication you have your dog on is for both. There are shots for Lymes disease that is what disease a dog can get from ticks. I have my dog get these shots yearly. There is one shot then a booster they get in a few weeks. Just call your Vet. Saturday morning and talk to someone to ease your mind.

merely make certain you get carry of the whole head out of your canines. no longer removing the top can each so often reason the positioning of the chew to become contaminated. you need to placed funds into some Frontline or Advantix; those products will shop ticks off of your pets twelve months around if used ideal. Ticks ought to no longer a brilliant deal, different than that some carry and transmit Lyme affliction, Rocky Mountain observed Fever, and different tick borne ailments that would reason bigger well being issues down the line.

Advantage doesn't kill ticks. Neither does Revolution.

Use Frontline instead, this kills and prevents ticks. Or Advantix. I don't know if you live in an area where Lyme's disease is a problem (caught from tics) but if so it is doubly important to get a treatment that does ticks as well. Ask your vet.

if she is in treatment then it is unlikely that you will have a problem, many of the parasites that ticks can transmit require time to be activated once the tick begins feeding on the dog. try and spend time checking your dog for ticks as soon as you come back from walks. If you are worried bring him to the vet and they will run blood tests to see if he has been exposed to any parasites or viruses.

Ticks are quite common this time of the year. Your dog probably picked it up out of the grass. if you find one that has burrowed under your dogs skin. smother it with Vaseline and leave it on for an hour.[ticks breath through their skin] So it will die of suffocation. You should then be able to ease the head out of the skin and dispose of it.Then treat the wound site with some antiseptic cream or spray to avoid infection

Advantage isn't for Ticks, it only kills fleas. You need either Advantix or Frontline. My dogs use Advantix, yet they still get ticks on them in the summer due to the sandy land around us. Just make sure you check your dog everytime they come inside.
