For the past month a cashier has been flirting with me but I only see her while she's working. Would this be inapropriate considering the akwardness if I misunderstood her and then had to see her every time I go shopping?

even if you ask her when she is not working you will still have to see her if you continue to shop there.

you don't have to go to the same shop if she is working and flirting that can be misunderstood more often these day as it could mean something totally different. you have to see the fine line in flirting and being nice and friendly.
if you want to ask her out be bold and take her out. exchange phone numbers on a break and try and give her some space contact her that night or afternoon. Ask. what is there to lose you have to try soon
Otherwise it will be a missed opportunity

Work is work, play is play. Cashiers tend to work pretty regular shifts. I'd suggest timing a visit when he/she is getting ready to get off work and offer to go get a coffee, their reaction will probably give you a hint as to what they meant without causing a scene that could lead to future awkwardness.

While flirting, it becomes painfully obvious when someone is hoping to be asked out. In case you are socially blind, say something retarded like, "I was wondering... if I were to work here, and someone were to ask me out, would that be against company policy?" If she says, "yes", then say, "Well, then I guess I won't get an application." If she says, "No"... then you probably should ask her out. If it turns out to be an awkward situation, then next time, come in with a hideous or silly hat on. That alleviates any situation.

it's not her, it's you ....every time you go to that store you have her as your cashier.... that's what i see here, it's not weird to ask her while she at work, go for it and just ask her out!!

nope, if you asked her out out of her working hours it would be the same situation. just if you are asking her out while she is in the middle of serving you might make it awkward. just follow your heart! good luck

i think you shud go for it because as long as boss aint a prick, if/when he finds out about it you will be ok and if she says yes you have all nonworking hours to do what you want with her.
