I know the answer. The answer is... it can't happen. No way. No how. If you're 30-40 lbs. overweight, you've had terrible eating habits for quite some time. Since you already know you're susceptible to weight gain, what you need to do is start eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and continue to do so for the rest of your life. That's the only way to avoid gaining weight later. When you try to do drastic diets (which you've probably tried before), you may lose some weight, but it will come back, and your body usually adds a few more lbs. to teach you a lesson for trying to starve it. Drastic diets don't teach you how to eat well, and learning to eat well is the key to life long weight control.

Here's a great site that explains exactly what makes up a healthy diet. It isn't a quick fix, but it's something you can actually stick with, because it allows you to eat ALL the foods you like. It's intended to provide you will all the nutrients your body needs, and be something you can make a lifestyle change. Then you never have to worry about your weight again.

I hope you don't listen to exo. That diet is not only unhealthy, there's no such thing as a healthy diet, you can stick with, that will make you lose 17 lbs. in one week. I think that person's trying to kill you.

Alright PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!!!!

You do not want to lose that kind of weight in a month, it is extraordinarily unhealthy and you will pay for it later. It would be very irresponsible on my part to suggest that it's ok to lose that amount of weight.

However if you really do want to lose some weight, just decrease your daily calorie intake by 1000 calories. So if you on average get about 3500 calories a day then start getting about 2500. Just by doing that without any exercises at all you will notice weightloss by the end of the first week. I would only do that for about 2 weeks though, after that you want to raise your calorie intake back up a bit by about 300-400 calories.

It would be helpful to have a good excercise plan as well. it doesn't have to be a major one, just do some biking or jogging, or even like 20-30 min of abs a day will help you out.

But PLEASE DO NOT try to lose 40 pounds in a month.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

While possible it is VERY difficult and UNSAFE to do. Do not focus losing weight solely on diet. Exercise is very important and often overlooked. Another thing to consider is with exercise it will help you lose weight even faster, and especially fat. The weight scales might not show this because muscle weighs more than fat but it is more dense (essentially smaller) and shows up much more nicely. In the end it's about looks not numbers correct? A big bonus is the heavier you are (the more muscle your body needs to maintain) the more calories your body will consume essentially for just sitting, breathing and living day to day which can help you eat more and gain less or lose weight even more effectively. As for diet stick to low-GI foods. Carbohydrates can be alright, but don't over do them. Saturated and trans fats are very bad, and fats in general don't consume too much. Avoid sugar. Protein is a good source as it requires more work to convert to body ready food, and won't get stored for ages without moving like some fats.

Your body is going to stick with you for the rest of your life. Don't rush it, don't abuse it. Pick a realistic short term goal and try to improve on that if you are still unsatisfied by making a new one next month. Picking an impossible goal will only disappoint you and eventually many people gorge themselves at the end thinking nonsense like they couldn't make it so they might as well dig a deeper hole, or they feel they need it to make them happy after such despair.

I hope this helps, good luck!

The only way you can safely lose 40 lbs. in 30 days is amputating a limb.

Calories are what determine whether you gain or lose weight. If you exceed your caloric maintenance level, more than likely, you will gain weight. If you create an energy deficit, preferably through cardiovascular activity/restriction of calories/weight training sessions, you will more than likely lose weight. Simple as that!

There's a rule-of-thumb formula for estimating your caloric maintenance level. For men: Add a zero to your weight and then add twice your weight. For women: Add a zero to your weight and then add your weight. For example, I’m a 220 lb. male, so my daily caloric maintenance level is 2,640 calories. If you were engaged in a regular aerobic exercise program, you would require more calories. On the average, walking or jogging a mile consumes about 100 calories.

A pound of fat equals 3,500 calories. To lose one pound a week you will need to expend 3,500 more calories than you eat that week, whether through increased activity or decreased eating or both.

Experts agree that to lose weight you need to exercise for at least 30 minutes at 60%-70% of your Max Heart Rate (MHR). A simple way to calculate MHR is 220 minus your age. So if you’re 45 years old, for example, your MHR would be 220-45=175. 60% of 175 is 105, and 70% of 175 is 122.5. So you should exercise daily for 30 minutes at a heart rate between 105 and 123.

You don’t need additional equipment—infomercial products like the Ab Lounger, Sauna Belt, etc. are all worthless gimmicks so don’t waste your money.

Eat breakfast, and eat five small meals per day instead of three big meals. If you don't wake up ravenous, then you ate too much the day before. Cut back on the foods you eat with high fat and high sugar content. Become familiar with websites like http://chubbyloser.com that contain good information on what to eat, including supplements.

Don't consume alcohol—alcohol is nothing more than empty calories with no nutritional value. Some people will argue that alcohol has some health benefits when consumed in moderation—I’m not debating that—but we’re talking about weight loss here. Lay off the booze if you want to lose the belly.

Drink lots of water, then drink more. Not tea, not Gatorade, not milk. Water. If your urine isn’t almost clear, you need to drink more water.

It's not smart to Want to lost that much wight in a month, much less expect it to happen. I guarantee that by losing weight too fast you will be more prone to putting All of it back on. Reduce you're calorie intake and work out. It's healthy to lose 1-2 pounds a week and you're more likely to keep it off.

you didnt gain it in a month so there is no way you are gona lose it in that short time.
it is healthy to lose 1-2lbs a week.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

It depends on how much you weigh. Losing weight too quickly causes massive muscle atrophy (wasting away of muscles)... I would say 8 pounds or less for most people... maybe a little more than that for an obese person.
